Hot water heater problems

I have a Suburban hot water heater in my 2010 3055 Bighorn. Recently when I turn it on the electric side, the water gets hot and stays that way. In the morning the water is barely warm. If I turn it on propane it is always hot. If I turn the propane off, let it cool, and try the electric side it gets hot for about 4 or 5 hours then cools off. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi bobowill,

If you've been regularly inspecting and changing the anode rod, my guess would be that the thermostat is opening and failing to reliably close. Link.

If you haven't been inspecting and changing the anode rod, or have allowed to wear out completely, you may have a damaged heating element.

It could also be an intermittent 120V AC connection somewhere between the main circuit breaker panel inside the coach, and the heating element.

Our owner-written Water Heater Troubleshooting Guide can step you through checking it out.
