Reese 15 Slider

Hello everyone, I have a question about my hitch. I am not sure if this is normal or not so I thought I would ask in the one place I am sure to get an answer. When the 5ver is hitched there is about 1/2" of space between the jaws that I can see the king pin through. That is with the hitch closed and the safty lach closed there is a spcae between the jaws. Now with the camper unhitched. If I close the jaws they go all the way together touching each other. Is this normal? seems it would put a lot of strain on the locking system. I did tow it all the way from OH to CT with out noticing this.

I have the same hitch, I will hook up this weekend and take a look.

That is the way my 20K Reese is. I have towed many miles with no problems with the hitch.

Thank you all for the replies, I just thought it was odd that there would be any space in there. Guess it is normal. I am at a loss because I did not get any paperwork with the hitch. Again thank you,
