Hello all. I just purchased my first 5th wheel. Picking it up Tuesday in fort Worth. Can not wait. As this is my first 5th wheel any advice for a newbie. I got the 3610 re fell in love the minute I saw it and can't wait to pick it up. Anyone in Oklahoma that can give me advice on great places to go for the weekends over the summer would be much appreciated. Also any tricks I should know that are different from a small tow behind to this 40' monster would be much appreciated. Thank all!

Hi CarlD,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge if needed.

I'm sure you will love your new unit. When you go for PDI, picking it up. Do a very good inspection. Check everything, TV, A/C, radio, make sure they have water and power hooked up, check for leaks inside and out... run water and drain tanks...don't let them rush you. A good PDI will take 3-4 hours. And if possible even spend the night at the dealer. You will probably find a few things and get them repaired before you leave, if you can.

Enjoy the forum and your new toy.

This is the time to go to the drugstore and get the finest tooth comb you can find. You'll want to take a note pad, some even suggest a video camera. Have them demonstrate EVERYTHING and then you do it. That includes hitching and unhitching, as well. Don't just stand there and nod your head. Don't be afraid to have them remove the basement walls so you can inspect back there, too. Try manuevering the rig around their parking or storage area, if there's room, before you hit the road.

If you've got a standard hitch and pin box, don't be alarmed when you hit the road and the fillings in your teeth get popped out. That's standard chucking. Only cure is to upgrade either the pinbox, hitch, or both. Hopefully, you have enough truck to handle a 40ft 5'er.

CarlD Congratulations on the new rig! We wish you many happy and safe camping hours. FYI we have a standard pinbox and hitch and have no chucking issues with the Big Country (knock on wood). It tows great! If you haven't purchased your hitch yet the upgraded ones are really nice and as JohnDar recommends, a very good option. But if you have the standard ones I personally would give them a try before buying all new. Maybe they will work for you too!

Best Wishes!

A caveat to the chucking comment. It will depend on where you tow your rig and the condition of the roads. But, there are some sections of I-69 and I-75 in Michigan that will give you a headache.

Check out the Oklahoma Chapter, we are in Thackerville at the first OK rally. Great group and the Chapter leader Larry Keever(LarryDonnaKeever), as well as others from the group can give great pointers. Welcome to the Heartland family.

Thanks all appreciate all the help I can get..... The coach has a air moreryde pin box which they tell me is agreat(I assume that means pay us some more) baahaahaa addition. Has any one tried the Anderson hitch? That's what I am getting. I have a turn over ball in my truck but it's a rear gear not b&w so the companion won't work with it.
