Battery Charging

Our first night in our 2011 MPG we had no electrical concerns while plugged into the 30amp service. This was a small campsite with about 12 sites. The 2nd night after a couple hours of use the lights started to dim. We were at a much larger camp site the 2nd night, an RV site. Easily over 50 site and it was full. We turned everything off thru the night, and all seemed ok in the morning. I will be adding a volt meter to the camper for our next trip. To confirm, the display for the battery on the Teat panel is Low, Fair, Good and Charged, and not Charging? Is the only way to know the battery is charging is testing at the battery? Any idea why we were pulling more amps the 2nd night bs the 1st?

While on shore power, your converter should be powering the 12 volt systems and charging the battery(s). Your test panel should show fully charged (even if the battery is not fully charged) while on shore power and the voltage across the battery terminals should be approximately 13.7 volts.

If your lights are dimming while on shore power, it would suggest your converter is not working or not working properly and the battery is being run down. You can confirm this by measuring the voltage across the battery terminals while on shore power.

The other thing you should check is the condition of the battery(s). Have them tested with a battery tester to assure they are good.

Thanks for the feedback, the battery is new. I will check voltage at the battery when hooked up to shore as soon as I can. I can state that after being hooked up to shore power over night, the test panel now shows green for a charged battery.

Happy New Year.. We purchased our Bighorn Traveler last March.. The biggest problem we had was our lights were dimming in the bathroom and the ones above the bed.. Turned out to be loose fuse connections on the panel.. I had replaced them 3 times in the past few months.. Our grandson took a needle nose to the connections and squeezed them gently. Replaced the fuses and we haven't had any issues since..
Believe me it has been wonderful not having to push on the fuse to make the lights come back on. Hope this helps.. Doesn't cost anything to try..
