BedRoom Slide on 4012 Cyclone - "detached"?

We have never had any major problems with our 08 4012, until now. I am in the planning stages of our spring break trip and trying to get the camper set up. I started to run out the bedroom slide when I noticed in the bedroom closet mirror that as the slilde was coming out only the bottom of the slide was moving. Meaning that the slide was pushing downward very hard at a sharp angle. I stopped and pushed on the slide. When I did that the whole thing shook as if it was detached? Of course this slides mechanics are hidden under the bed, so you have to take the whole thing apart.

Before tearing into this any of you have ideas on what this could be? Again the motor is working, just the slide is getting in a bind somewhere since the top isn't moving - in or out.

Thank you for any suggestions or comments.

Hi countrymom,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

Have you checked on the top of the slide inside to make sure nothing is on the top and not letting it move. Also check the outside to see if the seals are stuck together along the top. (Or maybe even a tree limb is holding the top.) :)

Let us know what you find and hope it is something simple.

I suggest you take the bed platform top off so you can see under it. It's not difficult at all. (Experience speaking) The slide out frame is attached to the floor. The floor may have rotted and/or the bolts may have come loose.

I don't know how cold it is there, but I had a problem once with the slide topper being frozen and the slide would not go out.

If frozen snow or ice is on top of the bedroom slideout and you bring the slideout in, the foot of the bed will rise up. You can ask Amy about that.

The problem here is moving the slide out. The hydraulics are working like it should but not pushing the slide out.

As I think about it more, it appears that something may be jammed in the rail or something like that. The only way to know is remove the bed platform. Shouldn't be more than two plywood sheets and eight screws.

@Jim - yes thank you, that was actually the first thing that I thought of since a few weeks ago we had a pretty nasty snow storm that brought down many trees and limbs, but with the slide in, there was no way anything could get caught.

@Dave - Hubby is thinking that this may be the problem. He pulled the rig out of its hole today and it sits patiently waiting for some TLC tomorrow. I removed the matress (regretting upgrading that now as that thing is a beast to move)..lol and getting to the bottom of this problem is tops on honey's todo list. I am hoping that it is as simple as a couple screws being loose. Like I said, this is the first real problem that we have had for as much as we use it every year and considering how much we put our rig through when we do go out.

Thanks again to you both. Will report back as soon as I know more.

Stacy.
