Best Route Waynesville, NC to Cleveland, GA

Currently staying just outside of Waynesville, will be moving on to Cleveland, GA next week. Best route out of NC looks to be 23 south. Anyone run 23 south? Is it decent road or a lot of twist, turns and pulls? Also once I get down into GA is there a good route to cut over to Cleveland or will I have to go down to Gainesville, and back up. 115/17 looks like it cuts over at Clarksville, GA, but having never been over that way, I have no idea if this is a road I should be on.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get on "Tail of the Dragon"! Ask Rodbuster about that trip. :) I am not sure what its road numbers are but I'm sure someone will let you know.

Hwy 23 is a good route south out of Waynesville.... should be ok while towning... About the only no-risk route is heading for an Interstate and sit back an enjoy the ride...

The route you described (23 to 115) is the route to take. You want to avoid cutting over on 64 and coming in through Helen

Me and my wife stayed in Townsend Tn and the headed to Cleveland ga. Made big mistake of using google maps to get our route from Townsend to Cleveland which took us through the dragons tail. Big mistake we lived to tell about it. 318 curves in 11 miles. Lucky we didn't get a ticket pulling our 42 ft 5th wheel Torque. So scary because the curves are so sharp we had to swing into the other lane to get the whole trailer around the corner. Photographers on every curve , and yes we paid $20 for an 11x14 we now have up in our camper. Quite a conversation piece.

But the big question is whether you would do it again? LOL

THanks for all the feedback, but it appears that our travels like our life has taken another turn. Cutting our trip short to head back home.

Man you ain't lying! All I kept thinking was am I swinging out enough to keep the tail out of trouble. And that was in the opposite lane for a brief moment. Traffic was light thank goodness. Oh , and cool story, we had a biker in front of us that saw our plight and he escorted us through and slowed the oncoming traffic by waving his left arm up and down. I will be much more vigilant in the future about studying my routes better. There should be an app out there for rv's where you plug in the length of your rig , and it pick routes that will handle a rig of that size. That would be cool.
