We are heading west from Texas in February. Arriving in Southern California in Mid-March. Around LA to San Francisco. Any Idea for Camp grounds along the way? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: California Rv Parks

In the LA area we stayed at the Golden Gate RV Resort. It is so close to the Queen Mary (you could walk) and is fairly central to the LA area. Disneyland, Knots Berry Farm, and Universal Studios. San Francisco is a problem. If you want to get close to the city, it get expensive. If you don't mind a one hour drive to get to San Francisco and be centralized for Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruse, Big Basin Redwoods State Park, then Beta Bell RV Park would be a good spot. It is located on highway 101 near San Juan Bautista. If you like hiking, then it is a short drive to the Pinnacles National Park as well. Both of the parks are clean and kept up with a good central location for each area.

You might want to look into a Thousand Trails Zone Pass. There are 17 TT parks in California including Palm Desert, Pio Pico (near San Diego), Soledad Canyon in Acton (in LA county near Lancaster and on the MTA rail transist line to downtown LA, Santa Barbara, Yosemite Lakes, Descanso (near the Monterey Bay), Ponderosa (in the Gold country near Sacramento), Minden Lake (in the valley rice country North of Sacramento), Snowflower (in the high sierra along I-80), Russian River (in the Sonoma Wine Country). There are 3 more that I can think of in Ca that I haven't mentioned.

Indian gaming resorts..Temecula and Jackson CA. I have stayed at the Jackson Rancharia and it was very nice, do have the Temecula RV resort on my list of resorts to stay in the future.

If if you happen to be retired military several real first rate RV resorts; Naval facility at Seal Beach puts you close to Disney Land and the beaches of SoCal. China Lakes is good but somewhat out of the way, but could be a good one or two day rest stop.

He was asking about LA and San Francisco area so I did not think about the Thousand Trail Parks. They are a bit out of the way for seeing the cities. I felt he my want to be more centralized for his visit. The closet TT park to San Francisco is Morgan Hill and it does not have sewer hookups. San Benito would add 45 minuets to any traveling time around the bay area except to the Pinnacles National Park which is about 25 minuets down the road. So I am a member of TT parks and enjoy staying in them. They are a bit rustic, but that isn't a problem for us. Rancho Oso is technically in Santa Barbra California. It takes 35 minuets to get to Santa Barbra and 25 minuets to get to Solvang from Rancho Oso. I do like that park very much as well as San Benito. Been to Soledad Canyon Resort. It isn't a bad park and needs some upgrades as well as the others mentioned, but at two in the morning the train sounded like it was going to come through our bedroom! It is north east of LA and again not centralized for seeing the LA area.
