It's dropped here again $2.37 at Sunoco.
Good for us but not for the working guy trying to make a living in that industry right now.

I paid $1.95 a gallon for diesel at a large 7-11 gas station in Roseville, California today. That is the least I have ever paid for diesel fuel anywhere. And pretty low for California!!!

Just made a trip from Manhattan KS to Santa Fe NM - Ft Riley had fuel at 2.07 / gallon. We did see diesel for 1.72 at one stop - started to fuel and something told me I'd better check - ended up being dyed diesel (farm / off-road use). Definitely don't want that in one of our tanks. Other than that all were pretty much in the 2.00 plus or minus a few cents. Gasoline (regular unleaded) seemed to be 1.87 to 1.90 or so all the way. Wife heard on one of the news broadcasts that a couple of overseas (middle-east) countries are threatening to put more oil on the market - if that happens we might see fuels going to a 1.50 or so range. Not going to hold my breath but that would be the first time many of our younger drivers have ever seen such low fuel prices.

Now, not to date myself, I remember buying diesel in Juarez (I was stationed at Ft Bliss) for seven cents a gallon. When I stared driving, Gasoline (leaded at that time) was anywhere from 25 to 30 cents per gallon; a good gas war price was in the 15 to 17 cents a gallon. Then the gas 'shortage' of the early 70s hit and fuel prices jumped up quite a bit. It was at that time that I bought my first diesel (a 1972 diesel rabbit) and followed a Texaco tanker from the fuel yards in El Paso over to the Juarez station where I fueled at 7 cents a gallon. On the US side it was close to a dollar - PEMEX and the Mexican government kept it low on the Mexico side.

Oh well, memories of what was -- like nickel bread and penny candy bars. The good ole days until you remember that you (I) made a mighty 25 cents per hour working for Phillips 66, got a huge raise to a whole half-dollar in my middle-teens. My first Army pay check (take home) was $14.00 for the month. Geez, seems like that was just yesterday.....

Oops - sorry for hijacking the thread. Got a bit carried away

Diesel lower than Gas...

I filled up my truck today with regular unleaded for $1.67.9 per gallon!

Just made a trip from Manhattan KS to Santa Fe NM - Ft Riley . . .

Funny . . . I just realized while reading your post that on this very night in 1984 (December 30) I stayed at the Best Western at the Manhatten, Kansas exit off I-70 as there was an ice storm that night through there and I was moving from Boulder, Colorado back to Jackson, Michigan and decided to get off the highway before I ended up in the ditch with my 1976 Oldsmobile Starfire GT and a U-Haul trailer on the back!

I remember that when I checked in around 8 p.m., the hotel bar was hopping with DJ music and hot chicks (Oh Boy!!!) . . . so I booked the room and put my cat and suitcases in my room, and about 20 minutes later when I walked in to the bar, it was completely empty and all the chairs were on the tables and the bartender was mopping the floor and closing the joint!

He did sell me a six-pack, so at least I had a few brewskies for the night . . .

I drove from there all the way back to Michigan on the 31st. and arrived just before midnight in time for a New Year's Eve party my brother threw with all of my old friends there!

John: You were able to 'visit' Manhappiness as it is sometimes called back when it was a 'more or less' dry county. You had to be a member of a club to get a drink; many of the clubs reciprocated but some did not. Usually the hotels gave you a guest membership but they did close up early. You had to go to Aggieville (the central part next to the University) to find a place that stayed open late. Even then I seem to recall that 10 PM was last call with 11 being closing. Not that way today.

Just filled my truck at Kirtland AFB, diesel still 2.03 then 5 cent discount for using the PX credit card. That makes it match the cheapest diesel I've seen in town during our stay this week. Regular unleaded 1.78.

Just now filled up with 73 gallons at $1.899 in Apache Junction, AZ. Lowest price "I've" ever paid for diesel since our first diesel truck in 2011. We had a caterpillar 3116 diesel in our boat back in 2004 and were paying about that at the time, but that was marina prices. (Miss that boat!).
