Greetings!
The dates for the 2011 Washington State Chapter Heartland Owners Club Rally are August 19, 20, & 21. We attempted to select dates which got the best response as well as dates that were available at our camping location.
The 2011 Rally will be held on the west side of the state in Anacortes, WA at Pioneer Trails RV Resort. Pioneer Trails is a very nice privately owned RV park just off of Highway 20 driving towards Deception Pass. I noticed the Google Map is not totally accurate...the park entrance is right on Miller Ave. Sites are full-service hookups, pull-through and back in, 30 & 50 amp Wi-Fi, and 79 channel cable TV. Sites are gravel.
We have 10 sites reserved. B3, B5, B7, B9, B11, B13, B15, B17, and a couple in row A depending on the RV size. These sites are in the older part of the park with trees. Campers can call Pioneer Trails (360) 293-5355 and confirm a reservation and site. Ask for Barbie and explain you are with the Washington Heartland group. Price is $35.26 per night which includes tax. AnaLyn and I have reserved site B17. Most sites are pull-through. If none of these sites appeal to you I think Barbie can accommodate you in a different location. The park has 150 sites!
A new policy at Pioneer just started…“No Credit Cards.” They accept Debit Cards, Checks and Cash when you check in. They would like a 30 day notification if you decide to cancel. The desired Rally Reservation Window is 1/20/11 - 7/01/11. This will give us rookies a little extra time with planning. Send us a PM if you reserve a site. Check-in is 1:00 PM and Check-Out is 12:00 PM
The park is providing a Meeting Room and/or Covered Cabana depending on the weather. This will give us a place for the Pot-Luck Dinner and any other activities we wish to have.
Club members indicated a preference for a minimal “formal” schedule and basically wanted a “do your own thing” agenda. AnaLyn and I are fine with that as this is our first attempt at both attending and organizing a rally. We are thinking a Friday check-in with a Meet & Greet at our site B17. Saturday a free day to enjoy the area attractions or simply relax, and an evening 6:00 Pot-Luck , and Sunday 9:00 AM Coffee & Donuts. Other events e.g. rig tours, games etc. can be scheduled on the fly for those wishing to participate in such.
The nice thing about a minimal schedule is it gives people a chance to take advantage of the many opportunities in the area. Some examples…
Padilla Bay Shore Trail - Padilla Bay Shore Trail is a 2.25 dike top bicycle and pedestrian pathway. Padilla and Samish Bay support one of the largest known wintering populations of peregrine falcons in North America, including one endangered subspecies. Ten types of raptors winter in the western portion of the county: some species include the peregrine, merlins, and snowy owls. It is reported that all five species of falcon have been observed in the Padilla Bay area on the same day.
The Tommy Thompson Trail - This project converts a former Burlington-Northern Railroad corridor to a 2.75 mile universally accessible pedestrian/bike trail. The project will create a paved waterfront trail that will provide a means for recreational and commuter pedestrians/cyclists to enjoy the flora and fauna along the shore of Fidalgo Bay.
Similk Golf Course - Similk Beach is an exciting 18 hole regulation course located at the Similk Beach Golf Course facility in Anacortes, WA. From the longest tees it offers 6,177 yards of golf for a par of 72. The course was designed by Rod Turner and opened in 1945.
San Juan Islands - A short drive takes you to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal where you can park and walk on the ferry for Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Restaurants and shopping are a close walk from the ferry landing.
Swinomish Casino - Five minutes down the road and you are at the Swinomish Casino. Good food and gaming for those interested. There is also a gas station which traditionally has the cheapest diesel/gas in the area.
Laconner, WA - A quaint little town for sight-seeing and shopping just about 15 minutes away from Pioneer Trails.
Plantation Rife Range - For those who enjoy shooting sports, about 40 minutes away is a very nice range which is part of the Whatcom County Parks system. They have a great indoor pistol/small bore rifle range as well as an outdoor rifle range.
Camping World - Just in case, Camping World is about 20 minutes away in Burlington, WA. So is Wal-Mart!
Deception Pass State Park - One of Washington's favorite state parks. Visitors flock to see the spectacular bridge and Pass. Because of Whidbey Island's temperate climate, many birds and waterfowl winter here, including an abundance of bald eagles. Fishing is popular in Cranberry Lake and in waters surrounding the Island.
