Ext trim piece......Uh Oh

Just saw this 2 days ago. Son took pics and will post soon. The exterior trim piece on main bed slide has separated from the wall. Can see it was attached as there is "sealant" bead the entire length of it. Total separation is about 20" or so. Cannot tell if too short of screws were used to attach/screw into sidewall or what. Is a new unit and it's probly something I can fix myself OR should I take to a local dealer and have them repair it?

Any thoughts as to why this may have separated in the 1st place?

If you take back to dealer it could take days......weeks.......even months before they get around to fixing it. If you are handy and think you can fix it yourself then do that.
Call customer service with your Vin# and let them know you will be doing it yourself. You will need to email pics of the part you need, so take some good pictures at different angles.

You will likely also need to properly adjust the slide (see our user guides in the "Tools"
section above.

Good Luck.

Really hard to tell what I'm seeing in the pictures.
Looks like the new slide in slide setup. Looks like it's a big insert that slides into the wall and that looks like it's broken or pulled out the screws.
Definitely call Heartland and send them the pictures asap.
It needs to be fixed soon, fixed right, and sealed up properly ASAP.

I think the slide in a slide uses cables and that possibly the bracket for the cables is not positioned correctly and is catching the D-seal/wiper seal and ripping it off the trailer

Did send the pics to Heartland and also stopped at newly opened local Big Country dealer who said they cannot do any "outside" work on units not sold by them at this time for NY hasn't issued them some license allowing them to do so. Find this hard to believe. Have a to have a DMV lic to sell in the 1st place. Don't think they want to fix units not sold by them. Spoke to Heartland and they advised me to try to get it into a shop ASAP for temp repairs for now at least. Stopped by another newly opened local HL dealer (BH) and said they could look at it, but may have to take it to a sister dealer for repairs and into next month. Also stopped by our old RV dealer and tho they could do repairs to it, they are not a HL dealer, so I'd have to pay up front then turn in receipts.

Now here is something interesting. I put the slide out to remove the screws thinking I'd just get some and replace them for I thought they may have not caught the stud when installed. 2 that I removed were broken in 1/2. AND the trim piece was tight against the wall of the coach! So something is def up. Waiting for a return call from BH dealer and will see if I can get in this week. Trips planned next 4 weekends incl a week vaykay.

When slide is in the weight of the slides would be pushing out on the bottom, when slides are out it will push in on the bottom.

With prior approval from Heartland, you can get warranty work done by an independent, or mobile, or a non-Heartland dealer, assuming they're willing. Heartland mainly wants to verify their qualifications before approving.

Got temp fix done at a BH dealer. While there, was told that Grand Design has come out w/ a recall/update for their Schwintek slide where a angled bracket is installed at top/bottom on inside, longer/fatter screws. This was conveyed to HL cust serv and they don't have such a item at this time. Have an app't w/ the BH's sister shop next month to take it in for a more perm fix and to get lil (18") strip of rubber seal below fridge in inside re-attached. As for the tmp fix now, used a much wider self tapper hex head w/ sealant. Used same holes (per HL) and angled them while screwing them in (again HL recommendation). See how long this lasts. The tech said it's more than likely caused by a lot of stress in said area due to size/weight of slide.

So here is a update on this:

Guess after a few calls to HL, dealer said the HL admitted that the walls/trim pieces needed reinforcing due to the amount of pressure exerted on it w/ the big slide. No extra brackets designed to aid w/ reduction of stress points from HL, all they said to do was add larger screws (#10's IPO #8's) and more of them. So they did add a crapload of screws to both sides. See how this goes.

NOW here is an interesting thing. When DS and I picked up the coach, battery was dead/slides in. Had them come over w/ their tractor for power as I didn't want to blow a fuse on truck operating the legs. Don't know if I would or not, but better their equip than mine. Got hooked up and came home. Got set up by garage and plugged into shore power. Left it for now/then.

Son goes in it for something Sat and finds that both fantastic fans are on and on "high". Both closet doors open and not secured. Neither of these were either on and doors secured when we dropped it off. He goes onto say that the door into the BR won't latch and that there is a good gap. So later Sat afternoon, I go in to see what's up. He turned off the fans and secured the doors. I find a plastic piece by bed slide on floor that goes to something (slide related??). Other side of bed a I find a carpeted piece of trim/molding about 8"-10" long that wraps around a corner something and this is wedged under the bed slide itself. As for the door, sure enough it's not latching. Looks like the door got twisted somehow as it's out of angle and if I picked up on handle it would then latch, but very tight. PLUS it's not even w/ door jam!! Almost like the door opening got larger. About a 1/4" gap from bottom up that tapers towards the jam as you go up. I know this wasn't this way when dropped off. Am not sure how dealer did this or why they were in the closet or had fans on.

Unit has to go back after Labor Day to replace rubber strip on inside of coach under the kit/ent slide. I would like to call them Mon to tell them what we found. But before I do, what do you all suggest?

TIA.
