FMI Fireplace Thermostat

I have a Model FEF26 fireplace which does not respond to its thermostat. It works fine otherwise, but will not start or stop automatically. I have the mode set to "Auto". Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Hi Bob & Sylvia,

In case you need it, I've posted the user manual for the fireplace in the tools/owners manuals section of the forum. Here's a link. Looks like it has a 1 year warranty in case you need to get it serviced. There's also a parts listing in the manual. Sorry, I don't have any specific help on what might be wrong.

I have a brand new Landmark and have notice after several hours of continuous running, I have the same issue. Have turned it off/on and after letting it rest a little bit, seems to work just fine on auto. We are 1 month into this RV. I'm a little surprised by this behavior and will report it as an issue on our 90 punch list for the dealer.

Good luck!

HI handrent,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

Check it all and keep a good list. You might keep the dealer service informed before hand if you run into anything unusual.

Enjoy the forum and your new Landmark.

Although I have a different model, they may work similarly.
With the thermostat set, when it reaches the set point, the only thing that turns off is the heating element. The fan continues to run.
Could this be what yours is doing?

Peace

I spoke to the manufacturer yesterday, after 30 minutes on hold. Upshot is the the tech didn't really know what might be wrong, but is sending me a new control board. I will post further developments.

We had what sounds like the same problem. Turned out there wasn't actually a thermostat behind the thermostat knob  Once the tech installed a thermostat, everything works fine. Who'd have thunk it?! Suggest you check for that. Good luck.

There is a big temperature swing between off and on. My heat and fan will shut off when it gets hot enough. Auto is not of much benefit.

Ours never has worked either. We even had it at the dealer for repair and they said "we can't get it to fail". I think it was just their cop-out in that they didn't want to deal with it.

I am tired of getting up in the middle of the night to either turn the fireplace ON or OFF because it got too cold or too hot. We had it running one evening before bed, and I turned the thermostat down just enough so that the unit shut down. It was around 73 inside at the time. I woke up at 4 am to an inside temperature of 45 degrees!

I'm calling now to see if they can get us something to get this working. I'm getting the run-around. On with person #4 right now. They have no record of our model number! I had to leave a message with them and I'm not holding out much hope that I'll get a call back. These things must be the TowMax of fireplaces. :(

I'm going to write about this again. Our was doing the same thing - it was either on or off, blowing warm air or not blowing at all. A tech came out, took the fireplace apart to work on the thermostat, couldn't find a thermostat, put it back together not fixed. Another tech came out, took it apart, verified there was no actual thermostat but that there should be one. Came out another time with a thermostat, installed it, put the fireplace back together, and the thermostat knob now actually works like a thermostat, that is, you turn the knob until the blower turns on, then it cycles off and on according to the setting. Anyone else look for that? Lorna

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone with this problem. I'm going to wait until the promised part turns up from the manufacturer before I start to take the unit apart. I expect to receive it early next week and will report my experience thereafter. I'll certainly be looking for a thermostat when I get inside the fireplace.

I got a call back yesterday from FMI. They are sending me a new rheostat. I'll report back when it arrives. I asked for install instructions. They didn't have any.

The new control arrived about 3 weeks after it was promised to be sent. Looked it over and decided that, given my technical skills and arthritic fingers, discretion was the better part of valor and I'll get my dealer to install it when I visit him next September. I'll report thereafter.

Mine is "Greystone" version... model, F2609E. Ours is doing the same exact thing. It worked for the first couple of outings. Now if you set a temp, the fans run but the heat will not cycle on. Guess I will have to make that call too. Took ours apart last night. Don't see what I'd think to be a thermostat.

Going to call FMI again on Monday and see if we can't get some idea of how to replace it with something that will actually work. Looking at a couple of add-on items. What we thought was a thermostat I believe might be the overheat device

I'll be watching your progress with interest.

Everyone who has this problem should contact the manufacturer. We paid good money for these heaters. They should work!

No Thermostat???? So the knob with temp numbers and the 'auto' setting do nothing? Seems like false advertising or something. :-(
