I just read this on one of the PowerStroke Forum.
This is why I recommend we need our own gauges as I have been using for the last 4 years.
EOT&ECT how many 6L owners know about this
Yesterday my son and I took a trip to Calgary Alberta to buy a truck for him, armed with a scanner,this is what found;
-first car lot, deals with many 6l,has a FORD diesel mechanic come and check their trucks. Knew zero about the delta???????? Truck was 50f out
-second car lot sales man had to come with us to see this scan and temps,they also have a diesel mechanic check their trucks. After testing we had a meeting with the owner and two other salesmen,they were all ears. 60f out
-next truck,private sale,new cooler $4000 3K AGO from the Ford store??????? 50out
-another private 25f out????
-phoned a guy about his truck,got talking to him.He said he's worked on more than 200 6l. I ask what his delta was after his cooler got changed. huh
.Well I have never worked on the 6l but I do have knowledge about heat exchangers and a mechanical background. So I told this mechanic about the ect eot delt bla bla,he said that makes sense (worked on 200 6l)??
I talked to a shop in Calgary,6l specialist. I ask the head tech there if they would inspect a truck for us,sure he said. What about ect& eot,I asked? His reply"I have a laser heat gun".ooooo k,wonder how we do this at 60MPH?Coolers under the hood right?lol.
$400 bucks to test.ouch
Long story short,this is THE ONLY PLACE that knows ect eot. Does mystery get filed with the "6L worst ford engine ever legend ". That's what I hear.
My opinion,the trucks that are 2007 and less are probably off warranty by a year or two.Average guy that I talk to has had a $3to4k bill in the last 2 years.Most auto mechanics do not like them,probably a lack of training. The trucks are under valued $5000 lower than a duramax. The 6l is notorious for huge bills at the shop. What else,oh I know,my son and I are going to get two awesome trucks for the $ of one
Keep it up you naysayers
We may have to get our hands dirty,but that's OK.
