The issue is the mods are bow illegal. Unless you can find a product distributor that still hS the programmers with the dpf removal tune. And of you do find them. I'm pretty sure there charging close to 2000 for the programmer alone.

Based on my tow MPG I think I got that update on my 2013 for free at the factory.

You did

So would an aftermarket tuner, that the OP and others run, get you back & me up to 12 MPG towing???

Older trucks - maybe.

Newer trucks, minimal. Unless you delete all of the emission controls. Even with that you have to wonder.

The trucks running around with everything deleted with claims of 22 mpg and 600 horsepower and pumping out black smoke ???
Black smoke is unburned fuel. If it is not being consumed in the cylinder - it is wasted.

Once you drive through all the diesel truck forum claims of increased mileage you can find that in reality, very few are substantiated.
On the older trucks tuners would fine tune the delivery and give some increase of mileage. But 25-50% increase in fuel mileage is .................

On the flip side, you have to understand diesel technology a bit see how increasing horsepower (within reason) can actually increase fuel mileage.
Doesn't work that way with gasoline engines.

Same thing goes with the claims of intake systems. The rage of the DMax engine was that everyone who replace the factory intake noticeably a significant gain in power. The reality with that though is that the 10-12 HP increase "claim" is not something you can feel with your "butt dyno".

And at the end of the day, it turns out that the factory intake system in the Dmax is superior to anything on the aftermarket, both in new and aged air filter flow.
Pretty much the same with the Fords and Dodges.

My truck is a 2009 F350 6.4l. With the upgrades on my truck I had HUGE improvements in Milage.

Truck doesn't bellow black smoke. I don't claim super power. I can snap a photo of my dash that shows what my miles per gallon is.

Drive empty from Cincinnati to Hilton head (truck bed full, with cover) got 20-21 mpg down and back. Of course ALL HIGHWAY.

Daily driving I get 15-16. (50-50 highway and city)

And as said before 13-14 with tt.

It's driving smart. Just because the truck has the power now doesn't mean I should use it. Easy on the fuel pedal. I leave it on the highest hp setting while not towing. And no power while towing.

Here is the latest mileage report on this unplanned long distant trip from Montgomery AL to Sonora, CA during a five day period.

The majority of the distance was driven at 65 MPH, which is above my self-imposed 58 MPH limit all other times. The actual moving speed average was 60.4 MPH and the overall trip average was 51.1 MPH. The first two day’s driving conditions between Montgomery, AL and Amarillo, TX were horrible, especially through the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. Hindsight now leads me to believe taking the longer Interstate route to Amarillo would have been much better.

I went from a 31TT weighing 8950 to a 38fifth wheel weighing 15500. I have a 2011 Dodge 6.7 Diesel and saw very little change in fuel mileage. I average 9.5 to 11.5 driving 62 mph.

I drove from LA border to Alamo TX last week. I filled with bad fuel at the border and fuel mileage dropped to 9 on my ScangaugeII and the trailer really felt heavy. Half way I fueled at Exxon and everything was well even in strong wind of TX.
But I always hope for over 12 when towing the BC.
Good luck in your experience with the unit.

Wow. I don't think I've ever gotten less than 10mpg.

Yeah, but I bet you're not towing 19,700 pounds either. Hence the reason I tow it at 58 MPH and get much better mileage. The only reason I drove 65 this trip was to make to a funeral in time.

Dave, your mileage and weights look very similar to mine. I also document mileage and fuel at every fillup. I have been doing that for probably 25 years. I still write it down in a spiral notebook. Do you use some type of app or did you just put it on a spread sheet?

I track fill ups and fuel consumption for multiple vehicles on gasbuddy.com. Its also handy to find lowest prices.

I don't routinely track my mileage on paper or with an app. I did this time because I wanted to find out how much difference driving 65 MPH would make.

I've heard of it. Is it an app for a smart phone?

Dave, you must be running an OEM fuel tank, looking at the frequency of your fuel stops.

Correct. This last year of full-time travels, I've only driven approximately 150 miles per week. Amy and I have seen more interesting sites that way and it fits into my budget. But our travels are coming to a temporary close for a while.

Gas Buddy is an amazing app that I have using for the last 2 years and have save hundreds of dollars in Fuel costs. It is compatible with all iPhones, android and windows based smart phones and is free.

Used this site daily for years when we had the trucking company. Not always the cheapest site in an area, but you know you won't have problems getting in to them. Lots of other useful information about the facility as well. http://www.gocomchek.com/
