We went from $3.56 to $4.24 for diesel in 2 weeks, here in the Southern Utah, Northern Arizona area. Trace

In South Florida it went from $3.85 to $4.10 per gallon in two weeks. With a tropical storm on the way the price jumped to $4.25 yesterday.

One thing us folks in "the south" don't think about is the fuel costs for those of you that winter in "the north". When gasoline and diesel prices go up that also is indicative that the fuel oil prices for heating your home will be higher. I remember when my grandparents converted from coal heat to fuel oil, how the price increases really would impact them. So, I guess what I am saying is you 'northerners' need to get ready because it looks like you will have empty wallets this winter trying to pay for heating your home.

If I recall something I read awhile back, only the East Coast Northerners are using heating oil...still. Us Michigan types use more natural gas or propane. I think I was about 4 or 5 years old when the house I grew up in was converted from oil to gas.

Just filled up yesterday at 3.67 in SC. Not liking these posts from MI though. We are heading there in a month and the price of fuel keeps going up there. John, how about doing something about that please before we get there.

South Carolina is one of the lowest taxed states for fuel. So as you go to the north you will find higher fuel rates. Avoid Connecticut prices, they are the highest. I use the Pilot/FlyingJ web site to plan my fuel purchases. It has save me a fair amount of money.

Thanks for that tip...I have used "Gas Buddy" but never thought about checking Pilot. Just did...the range is $4.45 to $4.65 depending the area of our state (east/west) Still seems to be some of the highest prices in the country :(

I only use Pilot/FyingJ while traveling for the convenience. I never buy fuel on the Interstate while traveling local because the Interstate fuel stop are generally significantly higher. I suspect the fuel prices will spike because of the hurricanes and hopefully will go down afterwords. This is a good time to suspend traveling and do stay at home stuff.

Diesel fuel here in the mountains around Creede Colorado went from $3.69 to $4.19 in about three weeks but are hanging steady at least for now. Gonna hurt a lot to fill the big tank to get back to Texas in a few weeks!

From what I read in the petrolium journals, fuel prices are high because of problems in the west and mid west refineries, weather, higher seasonal factors and some other issues. It is like a perfect storm-- pardon the pun. Hopefully the prices will drop in a month or so.... It is not only a regional issue, but is world wide because our demand and problems affect almost everywhere. Not trying to be political, just stating the facts so people can plan a little better.

The prices go up because some one wants them to go up.

Filled up today in Reno, $4.31...OUCH...was $4.09 last Friday. Now they say that the fire at the refinery in Venezuala will affect the US gas market.
Go figure.
