Generator in forward compartment of Big Country

How much noise comes into the Bed Room of a 5th wheel when the generator is in the front compartment and is running? What about the exhaust getting into the bedroom ? What about the noise from the generator bothering the neighbors?

For us, it's pretty quite inside. Not enough noise to keep us awake.

Exhaust pipe on our rig is routed back and out on the off-door side.

Usually if we're running the generator, it's because of a power failure or in a location with no power. It's not a problem for neighbors except that in a power outage, they're envious.

It can be heard but it is not loud or annoying. Exhaust coming into the trailer depends upon the outside winds. The latter is something that can be dangerous and you need to be sure your CO2 alarms have good batteries if you decide to run it while sleeping. I try to avoid running it if anyone is sleeping in the trailer. There are kits to extend the exhaust up over the trailer but I still don't like the idea of running it with anyone sleeping inside. Most campgrounds have quiet hours or no generator rules. If you are hooked to shore power you don't need it anyway. If your dry camping, only the deer will care.

I added a second carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom. The original was in the main area....

very minimal- with everything off barely notice its running- and with ac I no issue -at nascar track there is no power avail - 5 days 2x year and 4 days for indy car- had local shop bend up exhaust tubing to go to off door side- then back past bedroom slide- and in a spot when the is no doors and installed camco gen-turi system - worked wonderfully to vent exhaust up above roofline- ran constantly unless we left to go eat or store. camped in parking lot night before they opened track and ran genny all night without the stack and no issues

Assuming you're asking about the factory installation. We had the Onan 5500 Propane.. very quiet and never had any exhaust issue.

Hopefully it is ok to use this thread for a related question. I have a Torque 325 5th wheel toy hauler that came with the generator prep package. I just moved our Onan 5500 from our old trailer to the new Torque. The question I have is where to run the exhaust out? If I go out the front it will be under the 5th wheel or bedroom. If I go out the side it's under the bedroom slide? I would have to go back quite a bit on the side to get behind the slide.

My thought was to go out the front because the area under the 5th wheel will have a better seal than the area under the slide.

I don't know how true but I seem to recall reading something about extending the exhaust pipe and back pressure on the engine. Been awhile since I saw that so I cannot recall the theory to it.

I read in manual about it - not real clear on how to measure- but stopped at local cummins - big shop - and parts guys pointed me to the generator specialist out on shop floor- had questions about that and heat- and ordering the deflector to separate exhaust and intake air- he said the biggest problems are bad fuel- letting them sit and not changing oil- basically he said hes never seen heat problem in 5th wheel and if it doesn't shut of or throw errors its fine- he said the exhaust should not be a problem- he saw pics - have over 80hrs in first time out use and had zero issues - ran dual 15k a/c , res fridge , converter and tvs, sound bar, microwave etc with no issues.

if its a concern you could run larger pipe for the added distance

My 5500 lp Onan generator runs quietly and is mounted up front. Yes you can hear it but I can also sleep with it running.
