getting anti-freeze into system

First time winterizing. When we bought our Road Warrior I was under the impression it would be easier than our last trailer.
What exactly does the winterizing valve do? What does it change in the system?
I thought switching the valve and starting the pump would allow me to suck antifreeze directly from the jug through the city water intake fitting into the system. Doesn't seem to work that way.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Jim,

You have it right.

Turn the water heater to Bypass
Turn the winterizing valve to Winterize
Drop the winterizing tube into a jug of RV anti-freeze
Turn on the water pump
Open water faucets one at a time until pink runs out
Change jugs of anti-freeze as needed
Don't forget: ice maker, toilet, washer prep, outside shower and black tank flusher

If your pump is running, the valve is on Winterize and you get nothing from your faucets, then the valve is either not connected or connected correctly. Pull down a section of that utility/bulkhead wall and examine how that valve is plumbed.

Should be a line from the fresh water tank, the winterizing line and an output line that feeds the water system.

Got it done

Still a question.
The city supply line is teed into the exterior shower, cold side.
The antifreeze pickup line was coiled up behind the bulkhead panel and attached to the winterize valve on one end, nothing on the other.
Is there a better way to plumb this so that I don't have to remove the bulkhead each time I winterize?
