Great Campgrounds

What are the best campgrounds and why?

We will be going fulltime very soon and want to stay in comfortable, interesting campgrounds with at least a bit of privacy (not crowded up against your neighbor). Of course, one always needs to compromise. We love the beach, mountains, lakes, hiking, canoeing, biking, skiing, etc.. We even like the cities (on occasion).

What are your favorites, and why?

I like CG where the owners are actively involved in the daily management and policies are enforced. We tend to stay at full service CGs.

We stayed at Camp Hatteras this past summer. Had to leave early because of a mandatory hurricane evacuation. The campground goes from beach to bay. It's away from most of the beach honky tonk, but within driving distance. There is a KOA just 1/4 mile down the beach. We will be going again.

For Mountain camping may I suggest Ridgeway, CO or Priest Gulch near Delores, CO both very nice campgrounds on the western slope. If you enjoy ocean views I would suggest you check out Faria Beach Campground right outside of Venture, CA or Hobson Beach if you require power! All the way up highway one allows for some pretty nice camping. In Arizona I would suggest Dead Horse Ranch in Cottonwood, AZ however there are lots more. As suggested before check out campgroundreviews.com or RVparkreviews.com Have fun out there and be safe!

Great, we will check them all out. The advantage of full timing is that we can pretty much go where we wan when we want.

River Island State Park near Parker, AZ. That water was so clear and clean. Next time I go there, I am going to tether a kayak with a dive flag to me and do about a 3 mile drift dive and see what kind of treasure I can find.

One of our favorite campgrounds is at the Royal Gorge near Canyon City, Colorado, called the Royal View Campground:

Took this shot from our favorite campsite there:

The Royal Gorge Bridge Park was almost all destroyed by last year's wildfires, but just reopened last week after rebuilding.
