Home theatre question

Anybody know how to get my tv to run thru the surround while in tv mode. The external speakers only work while watching a dvd or listening to the radio. Would like to have them on while watching tv also. Pulled stereo but has no audio in jacks to hook my direct tv reciever to.

Klgarrison2003, welcome to the forum.
It would help to know what brand of reciever you have also which DTV reciever you are using. I take it that when you are using your DTV you want the sound to come from your surround system, not just the TV. On my Panasonic SA-PT480 I use a digital audio fiber optic cable between it and my DTV reciever.
Look on the back of your unit for a small digital audio input or output on the DTV reciever. You will then have to select the correct input settin on the reciever to hear the sound.

Peace
Dave

It's going to vary depending on which devices you have, but here's a general picture of all connections, including satellite, if you want the surround sound system to play the audio. You may have to click on the picture, let it load, click again to open it as a separate image, and a 3rd time to enlarge it.

I was going to ask the same question. How do I get my TV in surround sound. I have a Bighorn 2012. With a Samsung TV. Did it work?

On the Samsung in the 09 bighorn my grandson helped me get tv sound through the surround sound. I don't remember if he had to change any wires around but I know he didn't have to add any. On the back of the tv there are three RCA cables connected red and white on the upper left and a yellow one in the lower right. This is when you are looking at the back of the tv. On the back of the DVD player it is yellow-white and red going down in the back. Then you turn the dvd player on and by using a combination of the buttons at the top of the dvd controller you can get sound through both the tv and the ceiling speakers. Then you will probably want to turn the sound way down on the tv because it sounds like an echo with the sound coming out of the tv and the ceiling at the same time. Two of the buttons I had to push to get it to do this were the TV button and the AUX buttons at the top of the dvd controller. To control the volume of the ceiling speakers you have to hit the DVD/Receiver button otherwise the dvd controller will adjust the tv volume instead. Use the tv remote to mute or adjust the tv volume. The only two buttons that I am sure I don't use to get the sound out of the ceiling speakers are the tuner and port buttons. The tuner is for the FM radio and I don't even know what port is for. Tom

Thanks for the info. I mispoke my TV is a Toshiba will it work the same way?

I have the Toshiba. I just ordered all the parts to do it. The Toshiba has a connector on the back called a digital coaxial connector. It looks like the red white yellow connectors but it's usually black. It will be labeled digital or coax. Most receivers have an input called a TosLink input. This uses a fiber optic cable. The connector is different looking. It is a square-ish female connector with a slight u shape. If you have this setup then a converter is required to go from the digital coax connector to the fiber optic TosLink. You would need a 1 meter digital coax cable, the converter, and a 1 meter ToxLink cable.

Make sure you have these connectors on your equipment or it will require a different setup. I have a 2012 Bighorn 3685RL with the Toshiba 40FT2U TV. I installed my own surround equipment which has the TosLink connector. If your trailer has the Genesis unit, then it will have the TosLink connector also.

These three parts cost between $20 and $30. I ordered through parts-express.com. Great place to deal with and they have all these connectors and cable real cheap.

...

The Genesis Technologies Units (both the GT3 & the GT2) will have both the digital coax and the optical a duo inputs for maximum flexibility. Each unit has a wiring diagram right on it making identification of the inputs easy.

Stupid question probably but how do you get to the back of the genesis unit? I havent wanted to break anything by pulling on the wrong part. I havent seen any holding screws from the front.

Thats a fair question. All our entertainment systems have trim rings or sides (depending upon the model) to ensure a nice fit and finish of the final install.

GT2 - Trim sides. Just pull straight towards you and they should come off fairly easily.
GT3 - Trim Ring. Look at the bottom edge of the trim ring and there are two small slots or holes. Use a small flat head screwdriver or good stiff butter knife and release the tabs under these slots. After they are released you can hold each side of the trim ring and and give it a little jiggle up and down and it should come right off.

Each unit has mounting screws under these trim pinches that then need to be removed. Once removed the unit slides right out.

Ahh ok thanks Bob, I have the side pieces off and removed the screws. The unit feels like it is free but wont come out. Looking down the right sideIMG_0054.JPGIMG_0055.JPGIMG_0056.JPGIMG_0057.JPG .... it looks like there are rca cables that are plugged into the side and they are stopping the unit from pulling out. Im wondering if they had this plugged in before all the cabinet was finished somehow. Unless some wood has to come off im not sure how to get the unit out. Ive twisted and pulled and cant get those plugs to clear. Thanks for your help im trying not to break something.

Hey Brad, Sorry for the delayed response, I have been on the road the last two weeks.

Interesting that it does not slide right out. You are right, there are RCA connectors there, but they are recessed and should not proven the unit from being removed.

It been a few days, have you been able to get his out since the post?

No im still in limbo. I'm wondering if I might have to access it from the side to unplug the cables and allow the unit to slide in and out. I was hoping to get a response from someone who knew for sure before I moved on so that I wouldn't mess up my cabinet pulling the wrong pieces of wood. If I dont hear anything soon im going to start investigating that inner right side panel to see if it might come out somehow.

Hi Brad,
Thanks for the update. I have emailed my factory rep to see if he can get an answer for you from the factory.
