Hot water tank check valve

I am getting ready to replace the plastic check valve in the hot water tank with a brass one. I have a brass check valve from a previous surburban hot water tank, can I use it as long as its the same thread pattern ?? or does it have to be a specific check valve for that hot water tank ?? I figured I should ask the question before I just go ahead and install it. Thanks in advance

All the threaded water fittings on most all water heaters are a standard National Pipe Thread (NPT), which is a tapered thread. You should not have any problem using your brass check valve.

Ensure the release pressure and reset are appropriate for the specific heater. Should be - just being precautionary... or paranoid... or something...
