Idaho campgrounds

Does anybody have some favorite spots in Idaho ? we are heading to Idaho in September for a couple of weeks and also into Montana, but we have camped there before, but we have never spent anytime in Idaho, Glen wants to go to Priest Lake area for sure.

All we mostly do it spend time on the coast, we need to start exploring other places!

we stayed at Valley View in Island Park and Teton Valley in Victor. Both good spots. See Mesa Falls and Big Spring.

We have decided to start our trip by taking The North Cascades Highway and that will put us right where we want to start out in Idaho.

I can't speak for the RV experience since I pick up my 1st one next week. However, I did just return from a week long rafting trip on the Selway River in Idaho and found an excellent place to stage. It's called Tree Rivers Resort in Lowell, ID. It's where the Selway and Lochsa Rivers combine to form the Clear Water River. On our way out from the take-out, we stopped there. The owner said they have 50 A service and can accommodate the big rigs, but it was mostly smaller campers that were there at the time.

The last trip to Idaho in 2010 for our rafting trip on the Middle Fork Salmon, we spent some time in the Ketchum and Stanley area. There are not many places on earth more beautiful than Redfish Lake situated in the middle of the Sawtooths, outside of Stanley. They have a lodge and RV spaces as well. I just wasn't looking closely at the RV stuff at that time

You would love the area around McCall. It is located about 100 miles north of Boise on US 55. Ponderosa State Park is incredibly beautiful. It is located on Payette Lake. It has large paved sites nestled among the ponderosa pines.

Northern Idaho is beautiful and lots of places to camp IF you don't have California plates. Be aware of places north of Sandpoint in your travels some do not like out of staters. I agree that McCall is a great place but also remember that that highway is the most dangerous in Idaho, very narrow and very many turns. Redfish is a great camp to but make sure you have reservations!

Island View campground on the Hope Peniusula. Its a wildlife refuge and is on Lake Ponderea. Beautiful area.

Wow. I was hoping to go to Idaho this Aug also. Hear a lot of good things about McCall. Will have to disguise my Calif plates.

Southern Idaho is not immune from this type of attitude. True story. We rented a house in Hailey, ID to spend a few days before our rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. It's about 10 miles south of Ketchum (Sun Valley) and is a beautiful place. The people there are very friendly and I could easily spend a month there. We decided to take a trip to a reservoir we had seen coming in, called Magic Reservoir. We headed down a dirt road that was shown on the map to a small fishing village. We were met by a gentleman on a ATV, who simply escorted us as we drove. The village was made up of mostly vintage Airstream type trailers, that had structures built around them, and painted in a variety of pastel colors. We all started getting a weird vibe and decided it was time to leave, The guy on the ATV followed along side of us the whole way until we left the village. On the way out, we stopped at an overlook to take some photos. An old pickup truck with lots of antennas pulled in to the overlook parking area and just sat in his truck, and stared. We promptly got back into our black Tahoe rental, and quickly headed back toward Hailey.

gorgeous spots in forest service campgrounds around redfish lake. if you can't get in there, many campgrounds along salmon river and a few in stanley itself which is in the middle of it all.
