I have a leak in the top of the tank where the sink drains into the tank. How is the fitting attached to the tank ?? Is it glued are screwed ?? I'm hoping there is a easy fix without removing the tank. I can get to the fitting and the top of the tank by an 8 inch hole in side the coach where my return vent is located. Help Please !!!

Katkens had a crack around the vent pipe in his black tank in Goshen and fixed it with some JB Weld from Menards.

I had a vent pipe break off one of my tanks, it was screwed into a fitting in the tank.

Thanks guys, this is the drain pipe that goes directly from the kitchen sink to the holding tank, its leaking around the area where the fitting goes into the tank. Just thinking if I could remove the fitting that goes into the tank and put a new one in and re seal it. This is on the top side of the holding tank.

Bobby, not being there and able to see the situation I might not be much help but... If you have at least enough access to tell the location of the leak and determine if it's prior to the threaded fitting, by all means, remove the threaded down tube and get new parts and replace. Otherwise, clean it up as best you can and use a good sealant that works with plastic/abs.

UPDATE,

Well, I found the leak and I have access from the inside the coach, there is like a round ring on the tank is that a pressed, glued, or screwed fitting ?? anyone know ?? Anyways, there is a 45 degree elbow that goes into that ring. My leak is in one of those places. I ran into a mobile tech that frequent the park and he took a look at it and told me he has had good results with a rubber grommet used especially for these applications on holding tanks. I decided to go with that as apposed to putting ABS cement on and if it still leaks it would be that much harder to remove the parts. I will update in a couple days when the part arrives, in the mean time can anyone answer the above questions. Thank you very much.

UPDATE,

Holding tank fixed and leak free, didn't need to use that rubber grommet after all, but what a neat idea for a perfect fix on a holding tank if needed. As it turns out that that part that broke was actually screwed into the holding tank. Once we realized that we just got a new fitting and used Teflon tape and screwed it on, it was a pretty easy fix. I wish I would of taken pics, but I don't know how to post them on the forum anyway, so it wouldn't of done me much good. Safe travels everyone,

Good to hear it was an easy fix. When we get down there I can come by and show you how to post pics. We should be in Port R by mid Oct.
