We will be picking up our new Bighorn in Longview, TX very soon (woohooo!!!) and I'm looking for a good place to spend the weekend close. This way if we have any issues we can take it back by Monday morning to get things taken care of prior to heading out from there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Thanks! I saw Fernbrook was close and looked at their website. It definitely looks like a nice park. The lack of trees is the only problem I see. We really enjoy spending alot of our time outside (and I'll want to be spending alot of time checking everything out on the new BH), and, without shade & in early August, that's probably not gonna happen. I haven't ruled it out yet, but I'd really prefer something with a little more space and more trees.

I may have to stretch my 30 mile target to 40 or so - I did notice a few State Parks and Corps of Engineer Parks about that far away. Has anyone stayed at the Lake O' The Pines Corp of Engineers campgrounds or any of the other State Parks/Corps Parks in that area?

We just stayed at the Brushy Creek COE park at Lake O' The Pines last fall. Very nice and plenty of shade. There are actually two COE Parks in the area, but I was told by some fiver owners that the sites at the other one Buckhorn Creek were kind of small for big rigs. Brusy Creek was great, plenty of shade, roomy sites and well maintained bath facilities. Some of the sites are pull through so look on their web page because you can reserved specific sites in advance when they are available. We stay in a lot of COE parks because they are half price for us old folks with the national pass. Enjoy your new rig.

By the way, we stayed at a pull through (e129) right on the shoreline, but the sites back a little farther have more shade.

Excellent info! Thank you very much!!!

This is our first 5'er - can't wait to pick it up! I'm just a 40yr old kid waiting on Christmas morn! We jumped into "camping" with a nice, big travel trailer and had very little regret on size, etc., so when we decided to go up to a fifth wheel I didn't hold back (38+ft). Hopefully we'll be just as happy with this decision as we were our last! Pretty sure we will, as I researched and looked at all kinds for a couple of months prior to deciding on the Bighorn.

Tyler State Park, just north of Tyler, is very nice. They have a section that is all pull throughs... State parks don't let you reserve a specific site, but you can reserve the "Big Pine" section, and be sure you can probably fit in all of them. Most of them have shade, especially the outer edge.

There is lots to do here, it's a very pretty and small lake. They have paddle boat and canoe rentals, too!

We stayed at Big Cypress RV Park in Pittsburg last year.

The owner and the manager are great. Very friendly. Nice little park near Lake Bob Sandlin.

50 amp, big spots with FREE wifi and laundry. Last years PPA price was only $12 per day! Trace

Thanks!!! I called the dealer to check and see if my BH had arrived yet, and asked them about campgrounds - they also recommended Tyler State Park and the Brushy Creek COE park. They haven't received my BH yet, so I'm waiting to make reservations. They are gonna get an update for me on Monday - hopefully it'll be there mid-week, so I can pick it up on Friday.

My new Bighorn did arrive, so we're pulling our SOB TT up to Longview EARLY tomorrow morning (leaving Houston about 5am) to trade it in and pick up the new BH. I made reservations today at Tyler State Park. Will post some pic's if I can figure out how after we pick it up and get set up.

Thanks everyone for the info!!!

Tyler SP is very nice. When you pick a site, stop and take a hard look at the trees before pulling in; especially if they are leaning in toward the camper. Not every site at Tyler will be suitable, and some will be easier to get into than others. Take your time.

We stay at either of two in the area of Tyler.

Tyler State Park and Wispering Pines. We really like Tyler State Park and stay there any time we get a chance to staythere..
