Newbie Question on EAZ lift

Let me start by saying hello. Just purchase a 21FSB for wife and I to travel local to lakes and mountains in NC. Here is my question, The first time I backed up to park and store the camper I removed the sway bar but left the chains on the leveler in tack. As the traveler turned at an angle I hear a loud pop and found the bracket mounted to trailer with the chain attached slid 5 -6 inches forward scratching the paint off the trailer. The dealer said that should not have happen and normally you do not have to loosen the chains but to prevent this from happening again go ahead and loosen the chains next time. So I am curious how many loosen the chains before backing up in camp sites when having to turn at any given angle. Thanks for the feedback.

I pulled my tow behind for 3 years. I never had to unhook the tortion bar chains until I was parked. I did however have to take the anti sway bar off. Otherwise It would get bent. My tortion bar/ chain mounts never ever moved.
They should not ever move if attached correctly and tightened down. I would have them fix them.

MrBob63 thanks for the quick reply. The few things that came to mind that I thought could be the problem is the set screw to the bracket was never tighten fully, the torsion bar /chain was set too tight ? or is it possible to turn to sharp of an angle ?

set up right to begin with, you should not have to loosen the torsion bar chains, just the sway bar. I have a different make, Reese, and this is the third trailer I have had it on. Been using it since 1989. The bracket was not attached properly if it slid. Mine has never slid and have turned sharp enough to hit the propane tanks.

As everyone states, you don't have to remove the chains. You're probably right about the set screws not being tightened enough. It's normal for a little bit of popping back there when backing up. Just remove the sway bar when backing and the rest after you've docked. You can proabloy just move it back to the original location before it slid on your trailer and tighten it up properly. A little black rustoleum paint and your good to go. When hooked up, your chains should be perpendicular to the trailer rail when you are straight.

I used the EAZ lift WD hitch on both my TTs and never loosened the chains to back up. Sound like the set screw wasn't tight enough. When the chains are perpendicular to the rail as the 'Lil Guy' said, the torsion bars should be parallel to the rail (assuming your hitch is adjusted correctly).

Guys, this has been a lot of help. Thank you! I agree and have my doubts that the set up from the dealer was correct. The camper is stored at my bothers, he called last night saying they did not have the brackets at the same distance. The manufacturer said it needs to be 29 inches. They also said you had to release the chains before backing or it voids the warranty ? Hmmm.
