Next Newbe Question: Landing Pads or Blocks

Hi

Ok, here is my next question. When you level your coach using the 6 point automatic leveling system do you let the legs just go to the ground, have them on pads or do you put wood blocks under them and why do you make the choice you do.

As always, thanks for your guidance and assistance. My DW and I are counting the days until we can finally get our new coach and I can stop posting under "Prospective Owners" :D

Sometimes we use just the plastic pads you can buy inexpensively at Walmart. Right now we are using the wood boxes DH constructed using 2x8 and plywood. He put cabinet handles on one side to make them easy to pick up and carry. The jacks can go straight onto the ground, but we like to spread out the weight on a bigger footprint.

do you have the size of the boxes he built?

I just let the levelers go to the ground.
My opinion is that they are made to do just that.
I see no need to carry around more bulk and weight.
Three years of using the Level Up and never had a need for any extra pads.
But, that's just me.

If on decent ground I do not use any type of block, jack pads only. The LevelUp pads are about 100 square inches of coverage each.

If the ground is wet or soft I have blocks that I use, pieces of 4 x 12's about 16" long.

And I may re-level after the trailer settles in overnight.

I built wood blocks - they are 6" tall by 8X8. I used 2X10 boards and screwed them together with dry wall screws. (1 2X12 board would probably work.)

I use all the time; keeps cylinder rod tucked up inside the cylinder which results in less wiggle in the coach.

I built several pads from three 12" sections of 4x4, topped with 5/4 deck board. They also work as stacked cribbing if I need to jack up the trailer to work under it.

It was brought up a long time back that the less you extend the jacks, the more stable they are.

We made four of these blocks based on suggestions on this forum, and Steadyfast recommends them if you use their supports.

We now need to create two more since we added Ground Control system (two jacks behind the back wheels), so that we'll have 6.

Them be fine looking jacks you have there. I meant to ask if you got the same version as mine or the new Lippert auto level version.
There was another camper up here with a new Dutchman Komfort 5'er that had the new system. Sounded like it crapped out and he had to go manual. He was also having the "classic" no satellite signal unless he ran the wire direct through a window. I tried helping him trace the cabling, but we couldn't get it to work.

Not to hijack, but I don't believe the "auto level" for Ground Control is available as aftermarket. They do offer it on some other brands.

No matter, I like the manual just fine!
