One slide at a time?

Hello,

I would like to open one of the living room slides without having to open the bedroom, kitchen, and the other side of the living room before I can get to the side that is next to the door. Is there a way of opening one slide out before it is supposed to open in rotation? We own a 2008 Big Horn, 38 foot, if that matters.

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

Look in the small compartment where the pump and battery are, next to the pump you should see 3 or 4 valves on a little manifold next to the pump with labels, bedroom, kitchen or maybe door side. By closing these valves you should be able to open any one of the slides you want to. Leave the valve open to the slide that you want to open or close.You can experiment with the valves, by opening and closing them to see which one moves if the label is missing.

Our 2010 BH had individual hydraulic valves that could be used to open slides individually (these were in the exterior battery compartment). For 2010 these were standard. Note now that Jim answered as such - sorry for the dup.

Thank you for this information. We did find the items marked as you said. However, we were unsure of how to "turn these off". If you could give me a little more information on that, I would appreciate it so much! It is in storage right now, and there is no room to open one of the slides, and of course, it is at the beginning of the rotation.

The valves turn 180 degrees for shut off. Are the labels in place to determine which valve is for which slide? What model Bighorn so you have? There were some years that had an electric slide for the bedroom and I'm not sure of the specifics on that. I have an 07 3400RL. Mine has all hydraulic slides and I can get you the valve configuration if you need it.

If I remember correctly you turn it right to close it and left to open it.

Yep, counterclockwise to open, clockwise to close. They may seem stiff to turn if there's pressure in the line and you may hear a slight popping sound when you first open it. Once the pressure is relieved, they turn easily.

By the way, we added these to our new BC as an add'l build item. Joe used them frequently on the BH especially when we wanted to just open the bedroom slide for packing. Also, as we discovered this week, the new BC continues to have a hydraulic bedroom slide. My understanding is new BH's have electric bedroom slides.

I think that each slide should have it's own wall switch to open and close the slide. Much more convenient then having to mess with knobs.
