Our annual "It's For The Dogs" camping trip

We just got back from 2 weeks of camping geared around the pups. We had a great time, they had an even better time, put on almost 1200 miles on the Cyclone and stopped at 4 Ford dealers trying to get my truck fixed.

I'll be posting more but figured I start with the last picture first
Besides, with folks from all over heading to Copake shortly, this may be relevant.

This is our State Police escort off of route CT 15 in Connecticut.
Seems the sign that was well weathered and only had the lettering banning commercial trucks from this roadway remaining.

We missed a key warning.

We planned on a south westerly trip home to avoid Rt 95 though CT and NYC (horrible road). GPS had us take this nice roadway.
Turns out CT 15, as it is designated, is really four "parkways" which given that moniker, is a clue.

As it was, the sign we couldn't read had this important text missing "warning - 8' bridge height limits ahead.

So we exited off RT 91 and after about 6 miles some crazy trooper is standing in the middle of the road trying to flag us down. Didn't work.
It was a construction zone (on the exit ramp) and I was in the process of slowing down and moving to the left lane. He was in the sun glare.

Anyway, he shakes his head at us - waves his arms as if "whats up with that". 2 minutes later he is behind us with lights and sirens..........

At first I though he was just admiring the big white pick up and Cyclone trailer.

It was a pleasant conversation and he was just trying to get us off the road. And he offered to give us an escort (like we had a choice), which leads us to this picture.

So we managed 11 miles on this road with only tall bridges and didn't have to back up. It was good.

But now we ended up back tracking and riding on the poor excuse of a roadway, Rt 95.

I just looked on my iPhone at Allstays and it shows a number of places on CT15 having 13-14 ft clearances. No not as to the actual height. That would not normally bother me unless it is closer to 13ft.

What is wrong with your truck?? I just had the altenator replaced. Doing well now, however I have a P0672 code for the #2 glow plug. Not worried about it right now. Will havce it fixed when we get to Dallas. My warranty expires on January 28th 2013. Looks like I am going to get an EGR Block and see if I can get some of the common problem items fixed before they give me a problem. Changed out the FICM module some time ago.

Glad you made it home safe Duane. Some things you just can't make up. Glad you made it through the Bronx with your 5er still attached.

Bob, we did go under two bridges that were in exceed of 20' clearance. "Parkways" in New York state have trailer restrictions among others. There are many arched stone bridges and apparently , on CT-15 some with only 8' of clearance.

The blower motor seized up in Mass. Good thing the torrential rain stopped, but have you ever drove a truck with all the windows open and two long hair golden retrievers?

John - yeah - those that have never traveled it have no idea..................

About 4 years ago we had a bike damaged in a motorcycle trailer due to the roads and while stopped (typical) in the stop and go traffic, I had a piece of concrete about twice the size of a football fall and miss the front fender by inches. The debris kicked up by it crashing chipped the truck.
