Two new trailers, two entirely different PDI's. Unit #1 we were told to allow at least a couple of hours if not more. When we arrived at the dealer, they introduced us to our tech assigned to do the walk through. The trailer was clean as a pin, hooked up to electric and water. He was familiar and knowledgeable with every thing on the trailer, and showed us every feature, every switch, every operation of the trailer. When we were done, he had made sure that we knew that everything about the trailer was operational, and as it should be. The only warranty issue we had with the unit was the carpet binding raveled on the slide. When we called they set an appointment to come in, two days later it was fixed, no fuss, no stress.
Unit#2, we arrived at the designated time for the PDI. Trailer had not been cleaned yet, electric hookup consisted of a 15 amp extension cord, and no water hookup. They couldn't decide who was to do the PDI, and finally had a salesman come out. His explanation of the operation of the mechanical s included a lot of "I wonder what this does" and "I have no idea". Numerous obvious small issues that should have been fixed before we arrived, required us to come back two days later to again do a walk through. Several warranty issues after we picked up the unit required that we drop our trailer, because they didn't make appointments. After 2 weeks we were told it was ready, only to arrive and find that the repairs hadn't been completed, had to wait most of the day while they fixed it. Had similar issues with more warranty repairs, until I finally gave up and started fixing them myself.
Anyone care to guess which was the Heartland and which was the SOB unit??? Not saying that either trailer was better or worse than the other, just that all dealers are not equal, and as they are the first line representative of the manufacturer, they play a big part in the consumers opinion of quality.
