Picking it up Saturday

 We are picking up our new BH 3455 RL Saturday. This is our first fifth wheel and Heartland product. Any tips or feedback from anyone who owns this model or just tips on Heartland would be appreciated. Thanks Ken

Hi roland31160,

Congratulations on the new Bighorn and welcome to the Heartland family and to the Owners Forum. There's lots of useful information here along with a great bunch of friendly and helpful people.

When you pick up your BH, plan on spending several hours on the walk through. Even if you've been RV'ing for years, new RVs have new systems and may operate differently from what you're used to. Make sure everything is demonstrated and ask questions. If possible, get someone else to videotape the walk through so you can refer to it later to refresh your memory.

It's also a good idea to stay a day or two at or close by the dealership. That will give you a chance to really use everything and if you find things that need to be corrected, the dealer can correct it without having you drop off the rig and wait in the service queue. Of course it's a good idea to discuss this with the dealer service manager in advance to get his commitment to fast turnaround.

Make sure you understand how to hitch/unhitch and level the rig.

Get a clear understanding of the winterization controls and how to add antifreeze when winterizing. If you have an icemaker, find out where the water line cutoff valve is located.

You might want to ask them to take down the basement wall by the Universal Docking Center (UDC) so you can locate the water pump.

Check that the tires are inflated - even though the trailer hasn't been loaded up yet, you'll want the inflation at the max cold pressure rating stamped on the sidewall.

I'm sure others will chime in with their suggestions shortly.

Btw, we have a section on this forum with manuals. If you ever need to refer to one and can't find your copy, or yours aren't handy, you can download what you need. We also have several owner-written user guides, and troubleshooting guides that you may find helpful.

And of course, if you have questions, please don't hesitate to post them here.

Thanks, we are getting it from Lazy Days in Seffner FL and have arranged to camp for two nights at their campground to check things out. Have had two travel trailers but this is our first fifth wheel and it has a lot more features for sure.

Roland.... Congrats on your new trailer, great floor plan! Be sure to look in your blue zipper bag with all the manuals for a flyer that invites you to join the Heartland Owners Club (first years free with buying a new unit)!
