Route To Avoid Phoenix

On an upcoming trip we will be heading West on I10 from New Mexico toward California.

Would it be better to take I8 West to 85 North and then go back up to catch I10 West again? Trying to avoid the traffic of Phoenix...... Is 85 North as decent highway? or should I just go ahead and go through Phoenix?

Any input would be appreciated from those that have travelled these routes.

Taking the Bi-Pass will save you a lot of time and mental frustration....We all took that route going to our Quartzsite Rally in Jan...what a relief....85 is a great highway and while some truck traffic, nothing to worry about....One word of caution....when coming off I-8 my Garmin said at the stop light to go left, yet I saw a small sign to go right.....GO RIGHT, otherwise you will end up in Yuma...

Have a safe travel and post us if you need anything while heading through Arizona....

We took the I-8 bypass in January. It's a very good road and is much better than thru Phoenix.

I agree. It actually says "Phoenix Bypass" on the sign and it's an excellent alternative. We will be using it again in a couple weeks on the way to Parker, AZ.

We used it also. Lots of wildflowers blooming when we drove through a couple of weeks ago.
