Slides opening while driving

Hi; We have a 2014 Cyclone Toyhauler and during our one and only trip last year as we drove the slides outs slid out. Today we picked it up from being repaired and it still does it. Ideas? Thanks!

Hi drjv1967,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

It could be due to air in the system that needs to be purged, or a leak, or a problem with the rams. Slides can also drift if the control valve is partially open when it's supposed to be closed. The control valve setup varies by model, but you may have a trombetta with control valves located on the hydraulic pump. The valves can be operated manually and should be checked to ensure they weren't inadvertently left open.

Yours may be different, but here's a picture showing one example of manually closing a control valve with an allen wrench.

That would be an eye opener for sure.lol Hate to look in my rear mirror and see the slide out. Hope you find the solution.

I am going to assume that your slides are hydraulic.
A couple of years ago while driving down I-57 I looked in the mirror and noticed my slides coming out.
Pulled over, closed them up and continued down the road till I noticed them coming out again.
Turns out that I had an internal leak in one of the slide hydraulic cylinders. No oil leak but more of an internal bypass.
I used a couple of ratchet straps underneath to hold them shut while traveling.
I traveled like that for a few months till I could get it in for repair.
Do you know what your dealer did as an attempt to fix your problem?
There is a procedure for checking those cylinders.

Peace
Dave

We had a friend who had SOB 5er and had to place a rod on the inside of the slide between the wall and the slide. This is the way they kept theirs from opening. You should not have to do this but just saying it could be a temporary emergency fix. If yours if opening when traveling you have a problem that needs to be repaired.

Does anyone know how common this problem is with hydralic slides? Kinda scary especially if your new unit has 5 slides.

It does not seem to be very common.

Get your trailer to an authorized dealer right away and let them sort it out!

It sounds like the cylinder problem already suggested. But I can tell you when I installed the generator on the BC, It kept trying to start when I hooked it up. I had to remove the ONAN control panel inside the rig (on my rig everything is on the control panel), and it was a mess back there. The tabs on the switches were bent and the spade connectors were touching or near touching. The wires that had wire nuts on them were missing wire nuts because they were not taped. I had to clean all that up, sort and secure all the wires and tape the nuts then it all worked perfectly.

If its not the cylinder, then look at your extend and retract switch. Or behind that panel (if you have one).
