SOLVED: Generator powers A/C but no 110 outlets

I recently purchased a new cyclone 3600. With shore power everything works fine but when I switch to generator only the AC units are powering up. No power to microwave or any other outlets including gfi. I have checked both breakers on generator, I have checked transfer switch, and I am getting power to the main circuit breakers. The midi power controller reads generator 45a as if everything is working properly. I have checked the gfi in bathroom and it is not getting any power. I live about 3 hrs from the dealer and would like to figure this out without having to take it all the way back. Any help would be great thanks

Re: Generator powers A/C but no 110 outlets

Hi Correia28,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

Have you checked the wires going into the GFCI outlet to see if they have power? You could have a loose wire on the backside of the outlet, or a bad outlet.

Another possibility is a loose/disconnected wire at the circuit breaker for the GFCI, on the backside of the main circuit breaker panel. And don't overlook the possibility that there's a bad connection for the neutral wire going back to the breaker panel.

I'd start by looking at the wires going into the GFCI is you haven't already done so.

It's also possible that a main breaker is tripped. Breakers sometime appear fine but are actually tripped.
Turn the mains off then back on for a reset.

Peace

After further investigation the rear A/C and front A/C do not work with generator power. Electric water heater and center A/C does work but nothing else.

Sounds like half of the 50 amp service is missing. I would disconnect power first and look at the transfer switch. Possible bad contact or loose wiring. Then the main panel where the large red/black wires enter the main breaker.

Let me point you to page 13 of our owner-written Electrical User Guide. You should evaluate which circuit breakers are supplying power. If every other one is dead, one power leg is missing.

When you say you checked the transfer switch, did you check voltage on both legs coming out of the switch while on generator power?

And have you measured the hot legs where they attach to the backside of the circuit breaker panel.

The Precision Circuits System (PCS) energy management device would also be suspect except that I think it's programmed to shed power to the Water Heater before anything else. If the water heater is actually still getting 120V AC, your problem is less likely to involve the PCS.

Problem solved!! Thank you everyone for the help. One leg was in fact not working. I rechecked transfer switch and found it was wired wrong. Neutral and 2nd leg wire on the generator we’re backwards. Fixed that and now everything is working fine. Ready for my first trip out. Thanks again

I hope everything's ok. I'm not sure how either leg could have worked at all in that condition.
