Spare Tire Rim

On my last trip of 2014 I replaced all four of my blowmax tires with GY G614s. Fortunately the rims were appropriate for the tires. However, at the time I was too tapped out to replace the spare.

Before spring I would like to relace the spare. However, my spare's rim is steel - not aluminum. I am assuming it will not handle the G614.

Can someone confirm this? Also, any recommendation for an inexpensive rim for the spare?

If the spare is a G-rated tire, the rim is already handling 110psi. Why wouldn't it take a G614?

The "old" spare currently has the blowmax on it at 80 psi.

Ahh so! You went from BlowMax E's to GY614 G's. Not sure if steel rims are marked like aluminum ones are but my spare is steel with a Freestar G in it.

Pull it down and look at it, it should be stamped on the inside.

My spare steel wheel has a G614 on it and has not had any problems.

I would check it, but the rig has been at the dealer since September.

When I went to my G614's I checked the 4 wheels and they were 110, but never remember checking the spare rim. The tire dealer mounted the new spare so the tire must have been rated for 110.
