Got to witness the mpg effects of a "REGEN" in progress while having the "instant" MPG view on the dashboard. H O L Y COW! MPG dropped by 10 mpg's for about 30 miles (my guesstimate), how in the world can that be 'better" for the environment? GEESH!

Was that on the new Ford ??
How do you tell when it's doing it. I've never noticed it happening.
My old GM you could hear a difference and smell it.
I've done 27000 miles and have never noticed it.

Yes, the new Ford. I had the avg. mpg up on "my view" on the dash it has an "instant mpg" graph on it and it dropped (the graph) from just below 20 mpg with the cruise set at 62, to just bellow 10 mpg. If i hadn't had it on that I would have never known it was happening. I didn't notice any other change in engine tone or performance. After what I'm guessing to be about 30 miles the graph jumped back up to just below 20 mpg on the graph. Maybe I'm assuming a regen was in progress but if it were or is something else making it drop mileage like that I think some kind of check engine light, warning bell or whistle should have went off. LOL

The 2017 owners manual is a little shady on this subject. It says (I'm paraphrasing here): if you are not operating the vehicle to allow effective automatic regeneration (which is driving at a constant speed above 30 mph for anywhere between 9-35 minutes) messages will appear in the information display reminding you to drive the vehicle in the manner described. If you drive the vehicle in this manner the information display shows a "cleaning exhaust filter message".

So I'm guessing that to mean if I'm driving a fairly steady speed above 30 mph for 9-35 minutes after it goes into REGEN, I may never see a message telling me the truck is in active REGEN and I'll only see a message if the DPF needs scrubbed and I'm not driving in the manner described.

You can get the dealer to program it where it will show it is doing a regen and how much soot in system. The earlier trucks(11-16) had a message that showed up for 2-3 seconds that said a regen was happening. Haven't seen it on my 2017.

I just reached the 8k mark and have not seen it either. I'm just noticing my MPG getting better 10th by 10th.

Thanks Nick. I heard a rumor (from Keith) of some Sevierville activities involving a few questionable folk  and we'd love to participate but won't know for sure if we can make it until January (probably). :)

I could have sworn my 2011 used to tell me when it was doing an active regen. Hate to say glad I deleted but even on my Tow Tune no real black smoke and my mpg stays more consistent and no more stressing over DEF lol.

Won't be doing any deleting while under warranty. The Commander has given me a strict "hands off" order. LOL

LOL totally understand that one. I waited until my 100k Warranty was done and also waited until I started getting errors with my EGR filter being clogged and my Regens were happening way too frequently. Then it was either 1200 in stock parts or 1200 in Toys lol.

Just don't throw away the old parts. You might have to buy some more if you want to trade it in. A dealer can't take in a vehicle that has been deleted, thanks EPA.

Very nice truck Sniper have you towed with it yet ? DW said no at the last rally but Santa came early, getting camper package installed and rhino guard on Monday then it's off on a fishing trip to test her out.
Thanks William. No, we haven't towed with it yet and sadly that probably won't happen until Spring. :( Congratulations on your new truck. It's always nice when Santa comes early. :)

Safe travels.

Starting to add a few "Command approved" accessories to our new Super Duty:

WeatherTech Molded, "No Drill" mudflaps

GEDC2039.jpg GEDC2040.jpg GEDC2041.jpg

They're manufactured here in the good ol' USA, well made , look like they came from the factory, and easy to install however, I bought these based on the fact I put a set on our other dually (Old Faithful) and really liked them and how well they kept debris off of the toy hauler but it's a 2 wheel drive, this new Super Duty is a 4 x 4 and sits waaaaaay higher and tho they are working good to help reduce debris from hitting the truck, I doubt they'll help much keeping it off the front of our toy hauler. May have to rethink the rear ones.
