Well....The Elephant Finally Wins!

About thiry years ago, while working in the Zoo Business, I was "kicked" by an elephant that we were treating. Through the years I have had 4 arthroscopic surgeries on the knee and a few years of Syn Visc injections every six months to keep me going. About two months ago, my Ortho Surgeon said it was time to replace the knee.

Having a few projects in the works I decided to put the surgery off until January 5th of next year. While I complete my projects I am also doing "Pre Hab" at one of our local hospitals. They have a complete gym with all the bells and whistles as well as a large indoor pool. I start each morning out doing my warm ups and walking in the pool for 30 to 45 minutes. Surgeon, Therapist and Trainer all say that the work I put in over the next few months will definitely pay off during the post op recovery......I sure hope they are right!!

I know that I have to do this......climbing the steps into the BC this summer was very difficult! My goal is to be better than new next spring so that I will be able to fully enjoy another great RV Season in our BC.

Good luck with the replacement "project", Randy. October of 2010 I had both knees replaced, and there is a great many positive, and there are some things I cannot do...yet. I cannot kneel, and they do get stiff at the end of a busy day. I am glad I had it done. Best wishes.

Randy - I wish you much success this January and it's great on the pre-hab. Never heard of it but it sure seems to make a lot of sense. Keep us informed as your Heartland family cares.
