So... that's what I just did - oh well, it's fixed. The leak was on the INLET side - there was a copper ferrule on plastic tube with no insert in the plastic and the ferrule had crushed the tube -- I wonder how it held up so long? Snipped the tube - added an insert and new ferrule and install - done.
My bad for not looking closer and assuming the valve was defective. Live and learn.
