Recommended tow vehicle for a new Cyclone 3110

My wife and I are starting to look around at getting a bigger trailer. We have really liked what we have seen with the Cyclone line. We love the 4100 and the new 4200, however, the length on those is too long for some of the campgrounds we go to that have a 40' limit. We have started to look at the 3110 and really like what we are seeing. My question is regarding the tow vehicle for the 3110. I am going to be buying the vehicle and toy hauler so I am open to what truck to get. From my research it sounds like I should get a Ford F350 Crew Cab, 4x2, with the with the 6.7L, 3.73 Limited Slip Axle Ratio and the fifth wheel package/tow package. Does this sound like the right option?

Sounds pretty good. I have the 3100 and pulling with a 3500HD crew, 4x4. Just verify all the weights and make sure you don't overload the rear axle. The trailer is always heavier than what they say. :) Also, I see you are in CA, plan on getting a non-commercial Class A license. Not many people actually do, but it is the law. I recommend it because it forces you to practice various skills with your truck/trailer combination. Any extra practice on larger rigs is always beneficial.

Thanks Jon. From what I saw the tow capacity from 4x2 to 4x4 is the same, or maybe even slightly higher with the 4x2. What is the reason to go with the 4x4? I read somewhere that some people had issues having the hauler level when using a 4x4 due to it being slightly taller than the 4x2.

Again, I greatly appreciate your reply and your advice.

Thanks Jeff. I will definately go for the class A license. If anything, just for the extra time behind the wheel of something that long and heavy.

With the 3110 your max GVWR for the Fifth wheel is 15500lb.If you go with the max, your pin weight will never exceed 3100 lbs unless your RV is overloaded.Calculate the weight of your loaded truck(7000 to 8000 lbs ) plus the 3100 lb pin weight and that value should not exceed the trucks GVWR stamped on the door sill of your truck.

You should get the DRW... You will be over on the SRW payload rating once you are fully loaded, full of fuel and people.

I have 2015 3110, pull with 2012 F350 SRW, 4x4, have no issues, don't pull with water tanks full... Not sure why I would!

. Pulling isn't the issue. There's plenty of truck and power to pull. It's payload. I know from owning a 2012 F350 SRW, mine pulled just fine, but on the scales when fully loaded with fuel, people, cargo, I was over by nearly 600 lbs. My SRW King Ranch payload sticker was 3600 lbs, yours may be higher but this is my experience.

I have a 2014 Cyclone 3110, purchased August 1, 2013. Been pulling it with a 2010 F250 Lariat, 6.4L, 4X2, SRW. It pulls the rv loaded with water and a golf cart in the garage with no problems. I added Firestone air bags to maintain a level truck and to control the bouncing on rough roads. Only once did I have a problem with traction on level ground but the grass as very wet and the rv tires were making ruts. I used my farm tractor to pull the whole rig onto hard pavement.

I plan to replace my truck in about two years. I will be buying an F350 King Ranch, 6.7L, 4X4, DRW. My only complaint about my present truck is that it is a little stressful to tow this rv in a crosswind. A DRW is a much more stable tow vehicle pulling this rv. The 4X4 is to make sure I never get stuck again. This will probably be the last tow vehicle I purchase so I am going all out with a King Ranch.

Everyone has their own opinion, but any recent model 1 ton should do the trick. We prefer the Ford but that is just what we like.

If you do not want a dually, start with Ram 3500HD with Cummins, you won't be sorry. Then go to http://www.ricksontruckwheels.com/wheels-dodge.php and buy yourself a set of 19.5 inch commercial wheels and tires. Get the Aisin transmission while you are at it. I prefer 4x4 just because I don't want to have to pull you up to the ski lodge, and there is always something sloppy on the road ahead. 4x4 and diesel equal resale anyway. If for some reason you insist on the ford diesel, do your homework, youtube is a great place to start. Search ford diesel problems, then duramax problems and cummins problems. you will find little on the 24 valve cummins and Duramax but you will find plenty on the ford. My cummins walks and talks with the BC3650RL in tow. I love the ford though and would never sell it short, except Im leery of the diesel. Search this site and you will find plenty on the Ford.

The 3110 has tandem 7k dexter axles.
We use Airlift 5000 airbags but only with 25-28 psi to help level the truck.
The selection of options on the 3110 can have a big effect on the total weight. We left off heavy options like dual pane windows and 4-dr refrigerator and ours is still pushing the limits for a 2-axle...

I am looking at the 2008 3500 RAM diesel SRW 4WD SB, 16900 tow, 24,000 GCVWR. 104,000 miles. Anything you can say about the earlier cummings? Has 6 speed auto transmission. 3.42 axle. Dealer said 3.42 is better on fuel.

I can't speak for the SRW trucks but I tow with a 2008 3500 cummins 6spd megacab 4x4 DRW and couldn't be more happy with it! I towed previously with a 2500 cummins SRW 5.9L and it hauled the mail but when I upgraded to DRW and the 6.7L it was night and day difference. Plus the exhaust brake makes a world of difference everywhere! My only beef with Dodge is once front end parts start wearing out you'll get a dangerous "death wobble" due to slack in the front end and the straight front axle but it's typical. You just have to find what part is worn and replace. But like I said above I'm a big fan of the cummins and a big fan of the DRW!
