Hidden Satellite Receivers and your remote. A $50 solution

The coolest thing is that the BH3160 is prewired in the bedroom with a LNB feed from the sat and has a HDMI cable to the bedroom tv. Most thoughtful prewire I have ever seen. Thank you Heartland!

TV interference when bedroom lights are on!

The coax between the antenna and the amplifier can act as an antenna for interference. The way to reduce noise is to move the amp to the antenna head itself. That's what the Jack does.

TV interference when bedroom lights are on!

There is another possible solution: install an amplifier at the antenna. Chances are very good that a weak RF digital signal is involved. Unlike analog signals, a digital receiver will just stop sending analog audio and video to your TV if there is enough noise to prevent the digital error...

Hidden Satellite Receivers and your remote. A $50 solution

I just thought I would pass on a tip that makes locating sat receivers and other remote-controlled electronics out of sight. For example, in our new BH3160, the bedroom tv is hanging above a window. Getting a sat receiver located to feed it can be a problem. Fortunately, Heartland locates a...

What does the "Elite" designation mean

We just bought a 3160 Elite. I noticed that there is a 3260 Elite as well. Does the "Elite" designation have any special meaning? Why is it on these models in particular? Thanks

How do you sanitize the fresh water tank with an Anderson valve

We just bought a Bighorn 3160. The fresh water tank is a pressurized fill via the Anderson valve. I don't see any way to add chlorine to sanitize the tank. What am I missing? Thanks

Owner's Manual that actually reflected their RV they purchased.

I agree. My dealer doesn't sell that many Bighorn's. The PDI is performed by a tech who may or may not know everything about the RV. The big question is how is the dealer supposed to train his techs to properly perform the PDI? The more complex the RV, the less likely the PDI tech will either...

Camping World will match any price for Trav'ler

I am planning to get a Trav'ler SWM3 for my new Bighorn. I went to Camping World initially because they advertised price match and $39 install for products you buy in the store. The store offers the dish for $1799, Amazon has it for less than $1450. I asked the store if they will honor the price...

    Big Horn prewire set up

I now have authoritative information on the 3160 prewire. It turns out that Heartland did an amazing job. The living room is just as expected with adding a satellite receiver a very simple task. The bedroom appeared more problematic. There is no good location near the TV to put the receiver. It...

    Tailgater vs. Pathway X2

We used a Tailgater last season. It did a really good job and delivered all of the high def channels. The Dish service was very expensive. We like the premium channels and it cost us $135/month. We have DirecTV at home and get everything for less. The "cancel" anytime deal from Dish has a little...

ATF: Bighorn - 3160 EL Mystery coax jumpers in the bedroom closet

I got an email from Kary Katzenberger clarifying. As I had hoped, the jumpered RG6 wall connectors are the satellite feed to the bedroom. I am massively impressed that Heartland engineers realized that there is no good location for a receiver near the TV and made this perfect provision for...

    EMS: Portable or Built-In?

Re: Portable or Built-In This is all very helpful. In terms of neutral, if the podium is so badly miswired that "hot" is crossed with white then it makes very good sense to isolate the neutral along with the hot leads. In typical wiring, the neutral is connected to ground at the main breaker...

Last chance to make hitch decision

Based on my reading here and on the rvnet forum, the Companion seems to win out. I asked my dealer's service manager to verify that it is a good choice. He called his distributor and learned that there have been no complaints about the hitch. The Companion now has a load capacity of 20,000 lbs...

ATF: Bighorn - 3160 EL Mystery coax jumpers in the bedroom closet

That isn't correct. Please refer to the photo. This is a pair of RG6 in the bedroom closet of the 3610 EL. They have a jumper on them so they can't be two feeds.

ATF: Bighorn - 3160 EL Mystery coax jumpers in the bedroom closet

There are two RG6 wall plates with a jumper between them in our bedroom closet. I have the latest coax wiring plan and they do no show there. Below is a photo of the connectors. They are located with the controller cable for the satellite prewiring on the roof. I am hoping that it is the cable...

    EMS: Portable or Built-In?

Re: Portable or Built-In As much as I like the idea of wiring in the Progressive EMS, the time and cost of the cutover switch seems like too much for me. I have the cable and lock to tie the portable to the podium. I think I will go that way. Thanks for all the great advice and help.

    EMS: Portable or Built-In?

Re: Portable or Built-In I considered that option too. However, 50A connectors, particularly females are really expensive. Another possibility is a bypass. There are several ways this can be done. Nicest would be a double pole, double throw switch. Not cheap at 50A, but also not crazy...

    EMS: Portable or Built-In?

I have one concerned about the hard wired EMS: what happens if it fails and you are camping? Even though the Progressive units are very good, there are examples of them failing from time to time. Should that happen and the unit is installed behind the basement wall, it would be a tough...

Makes sense. My understanding is that Landmark is a full-time, long-term fiver and that Bighorn is the top of the vacation trailer line That is in the Heartland corporate description. Accessing the shore power cable to install built in power manager

Accessing the shore power cable to install built in power manager

If possible, I would like to install a progressive power controller. I need to be able to get behind the power center and have enough room for the controller. Since I have a new model, 3160 EL, it may be hard to find help. Anyone have some thoughts on this? I would love to do it.

    Bighorn 3160EL

I thought this thread was about the 3160 EL, not the 3260 EL. The 3160 EL is about 12,015 lbs dry. The 3260 EL weighs 11,845 with its 6,000 lb axles. It is heavier than some of the others because of the 7,000 lb axles I was told. Ours is in prep now and we may get it next Saturday if all the...

ATF: Bighorn - Coax schematic for 2014 3160

Confused as to the tow weight of my vehicle

There are actually several numbers you need to consider. We have a 2014 F350 SRW Crew Cab. We weighed the truck with us and our stuff in it and it came to 8,400 lbs. GCWR is 11,500 for the truck (there are different packages...the heaviest for SRW is 11,500). Subtract 8400 from 11,500 and we...

We saw it at the Seattle RV show. We bought it there, signed the papers earlier this week and will do the PDI either next Saturday or the one after. ATF: Bighorn - Coax schematic for 2014 3160

ATF: Bighorn - Coax schematic for 2014 3160

Actually, that wasn't the question. All that is no problem. What's new is that there are two RG6 connectors in the bedroom closet, not near the bedroom TV. All the expected cable TV / antenna stuff is behind the bedroom TV as you describe. The Satellite cables are accounted for and, at least...
