What did you do to your camper today?

Listed or mentioned in separate threads on the subject, and actually done in the last couple weeks: Replaced aluminum rims with steel rims. (I've had four different rims crack over the last 3 years). Replaced my trailer-side 50 amp connector and the power cord end with parts from SmartPlug.

    Norcold 2118

I picked a couple random "counter depth" residential refrigerators and they we're both within a couple inches in width and height of the Norcold 2118. What you will find is that most residential counter depth refrigerators will show 27" deep with handles vs. the 24" deep Norcold. Typically...

Yup. And I plan on checking them a couple times after we start rolling (2.5 weeks from now).

    Yet another cracked rim

I will at least contact them to let them know. Probably will contact NHSTA, as well. If they want to comp me anything, that's fine, but I won't expect anything. Here is everything swapped over. And mounted on the trailer. Not too shabby looking to be honest. I still plan on getting...

    Yet another cracked rim

Update. We decided to order four steel rims (rated at 3750lb/110psi) from eTrailer to replace the aluminum rims and had them delivered to our family's home here in Washington state. I just took the tires/wheels off the trailer and took them and the new rims to a local tire store to have them...

    Check Your Shore Connections

Yup, the Dorseys were the inspiration for the choice of shore connectors to use.

    Check Your Shore Connections

The connection for the red wire on the trailer connector was a bit looser than the others or at least easier to unscrew.

    slide seals pulling out.

If you're talking about the D-shaped bulb seals, I always put a self-tapping screw just inside each end of the seals to keep them from sliding out. The factory usually does, but I've found on my current rig that wasn't necessarily the case.

New rv lock will not fit

The only thing that seems to take 30 minutes for me is replacing the batteries in the darn thing. Most of that time is spent crawling under the trailer to retrieve one that sprung out before I could get the cover on and rolled to the center of the trailer. In all seriousness, I do cover the...

    Check Your Shore Connections

We've been stationary in Florida from early February until July 4th when we hooked up the Big Country to head west to visit family. When I unhooked our 50 Amp cord from the trailer, I was a little dismayed to see that one of the terminals on the shore cord end was darkened. Since we would be...

    Yet another cracked rim

Tires and wheels are both rated to 3750lb at 110 psi. Usually just run them all around 105 or so. Not sure on individual wheel weights. Might be time to get some weighing done if I can find somewhere that does that down to the wheel. I might drive across a Cat scale soon and at least see what...

    Yet another cracked rim

Old thread on this was closed. Recap: We bought our Big Country in fall of 2015. In fall of 2016, I found that one of our trailer tires was low on air. Determined the rim was cracked. Contacted Tredit, they sent a new rim of an "updated design". Had tire mounted on new rim, discarded old...

    Club Member at Wakeeney KOA

We're two doors down from a classic Landmark being pulled by an older black Ford F-350 DRW. South Dakota plates on both. HOC plate with 2197 (?) on it. Forum staff - can't download a member list from the Club page (takes you to a sign up page), can't find my old spreadsheet list.

Length seems to be a problem in many sites

We're real big on reservations. I'm not much on driving to various campgrounds and just seeing what is available, if anything. After a long day on the road it is nice to just check-in, drive back to the site, set up and relax. If you can't reserve online, call ahead and find out whether your...

    Residential Fridge "No Lock"

We have a side-by-side (Frigidaire) and wrap a velcro strap around both handles while traveling. Ours came with the factory-supplied stretchy plastic thing but one of the catches came off during our PDI. We just had the tech bring us a velcro strap and haven't looked back.

How do you Change out sofa

Should be able to pull the back(s) off of the unit. From there, you can tip the unit up on end at the doorway and should be able to slide it through. We got our full-width (queen sleeper) sofa out of our Big Country that way. Ditto for the factory-supplied theater seating unit (which came...

    Ranting!

We have a Wii (RCA jacks), Mac Mini computer (HDMI), an Xbox One S (HDMI) and previously had a Cable TV box (HDMI) and BluRay Player (HDMI). Having dropped cable and replacing the BluRay player with the Xbox means we could get by with two HDMIs again.

    Ranting!

Our current Big Country came with a 39" TV (in a space that would easily house at least a 43" and possibly up to about 48" TV). I needed more than the two HDMI ports that the stock TV had, so we swapped in a Visio 4K UHD 43" TV pretty promptly. I agree with whoever mentioned the picture...

    2016 F350 bounce issue

Trailer pin-box and/or fifth wheel hitch setup, perhaps? I know when we went from solid pinbox to a MorRyde box, our chucking reduced considerably. We have a Lippert Flex-Air now and ride even smoother.

    EMS doing its job!

Unfortunately, many campground owners as well. Both times I've gone to a campground office due to my EMS shutting off power due to low or high power, I've been met with "oh, those things (the EMS) never work right, just by-pass it". I always carry a volt meter so I can show someone. Usually gets...

    EMS doing its job!

We were sitting in our RV a week or two ago in 90-degree Florida weather. I was working, so I was connected to the office via Internet and VPN. Nice sunny day and suddenly the power goes out in the trailer. Val and I looked at each other and I was making sure nothing was unsaved on the computer...

Can You Change Tire Profile Numbers?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just means the tire will be an inch taller. As long as you have plenty of room between tires, you should be fine. Our first Big Country had 80 series tires (Towmax) that we replaced with Goodyear G614s in an 85 series size and never had any issues. Also, check the...

    4113 cyclone pin weight?

With a single cab, two-wheel-drive truck with the smallest (non-diesel) engine available. GVWR is 10,000. Subtract the weight of a crew-cab, 4x4 with a diesel engine, and you're probably closer to just under 2,000 lb. I think the short answer is that a 20k GVWR fifth wheel and a 3/4 ton truck...

    TorkLift Glowstep

We love ours. We've had ours about 2.5 years now and they're still as tight and stable as they were when we installed them. And we're full-time, so they get used literally every day. Torklift are great folks all around and build a solid product.

Popping sound as we walk in fiver

Just to add to Dan's post, we added a quart of the fork oil. We still get popping, especially in our front jacks, when the weather cools. Not terrible, but very noticeable at times. I've heard folks that have used the Cat fluid have head better luck. To cut down on the four side jacks doing the...

Popping sound as we walk in fiver

Does it get worse in the evening after it cools off? (A relative term in FL right now). If you have auto-level, might try bumping the two sides up a tad higher (puts more pressure on them). Ours will do that after it has been sitting a while and the jacks settle a bit. Cooler temps make it worse.

    Help it’s so hot!

A few factors are at play. Probably most important is that you have an aluminum skinned trailer with probably minimal sidewall insulation. That single AC unit is working very hard trying to keep that box cool. I have a 10x14 aluminum shed outside (we are in central Florida) and I can walk inside...

    Electrical shock

Might probe the 50 amp end of the adapter and see what you are getting between each hot and the neutral. Then do the same between hot and ground. Something's leaking current somewhere. Do you have a power management/surge suppressor device inline anywhere?
  31. M

    Electrical shock

Definite "hot skin" condition. I'd shut off main power until you can figure it out. If you are at a campground, it's possible the power outlet is to blame. Start checking there and work your way to the rig.

    Broken Window Opener

We have one that pops out all the time, just like yours. If you are careful, you can pop the roller back in the channel. It'll hold for a while and will probably pop back out again. Just depends on how often you use the window. I haven't looked into a more permanent fix.

    Sailun tire size

Slight correction, the 80 and 85 are the percentage of sidewall compared to width, not a number of mm. Plus, don't forget to multiply by two, since you have two sidewall heights (top and bottom). 235/80's will have a sidewall height of 188mm (7.4 inches) 235/85's will have a sidewall height of...

    Entertainment Center

I haven't let full-time RV living put a crimp in my somewhat vintage stereo listening habits. Our rig has been carrying a modern turntable and vintage Sansui receiver for quite some time (I bought the turntable in Goshen during the 2015 rally, as a matter of fact). We've also been slowly adding...

    Orlando RV parks in July

The Kissimmee KOA is about 8 miles away (or, as we like to say in Orlando - about 20 minutes away). We visited Gus and Debra Funderberg there one time and the place looked pretty nice. Right off of US 192.

Landmark Concord & Big Country 3806 Models

Our first rig was a Big Country 3690SL, which was a rear kitchen model. We actually had glass plates in the upper cabinets without anything between them. They were all still intact when we traded the rig after 2 1/2 years of full-time use. I imagine the rear does bounce a bit, but I would think...

    2018 RVIA Major Show Attendance

It's also a great venue to look through the other brands to get ideas for mods to your own RV. That's what we've typically done in the past. (Sadly, I'm out of town on business for the Tampa show, so we can't attend this year).

Dishwasher install in our Big Country 3650RL

Prior to installing it permanently, we had it on top of the end of our kitchen island (next to the sink). To accommodate the supplied water/drain supply for countertop use, we had to temporarily replace our pull-down faucet with a more simple Delta model that had a standard screw-off aerator...
