    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

From what I saw, the magnet fell off and the un-shielded cabling was super frayed. I saw no bearing damage or issues and greased packed everything nicely before wrapping up. Attached to the magnet appeared to only be one super frayed wire..

    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Updated. Hit the local trailer supply and sourced a full 12" brake kit, installed and then replaced the break away cable since it had melted down during the test. All is well and I'm ready to tow next Tuesday! Sweet!

    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Pretty sure I just found the culprit. Started the truck up, plugged in the RV pig-tail, then started jacking up each axle/tire to see if they free-spin. Once I confirmed, I yanked the Emergency break/away brake cable and started turning the tires again. All 3 on the door side had the brakes...

    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Thanks for the link. How different are Dexter axles from Lippert? I believe my RW395 is nearly 100% Lippert components. Good info in that manual though and thanks for sharing!

    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Well, took the truck to the local trailer supply/service shop and they tested the P3 and it passed. So, now its troubleshooting all the wiring from the trailer pigtail all the way to each brake drum! UGH! There has to be an easier way to find a short or bad ground.. As memory serves, the wiring...

    Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Hooked up today to get new wheels on the Roadwarrior. Before even leaving my RV pad, I noticed the brake controller flashing red and reading "Overload, NO BRAKES". Sure enough, pulled the manual lever on the P3 and no brakes. Doing some basic troubleshooting and either the P3 is bad or I have a...

Removed all decals and added my own!

Very little fade considering how bad the door side decals were cooked by the sun. On the nose cap, we had to affix the blue background because the original Road Warrior decal had literally burned into the RV. Spend was $2000 for removal plus the new decal. Note that this rig is 43' L, and it...

Removed all decals and added my own!

The sun was baking the door side and nose decals, so I dropped the 5th wheel off at a Sign & Body Shop for a few days and removed all (mostly) decals and created my new nose graphic. Thoughts?

Snapped a Leaf Spring: Axles out of position

*At the alignment shop today. So, today I was able to replace the remainder of the leaf springs, shackles and U-bolts and Equalizers. The equalizers were worn through pretty bad where the bolt went through. I then immediately took my rig to a big-rig Alignment shop where they told me 3 of 6...

Snapped a Leaf Spring: Axles out of position

Nothing bent, UBolts haven't moved, so I'm going to guess the other leaf springs are just worn out causing a chain reaction in the Equalizers..

Snapped a Leaf Spring: Axles out of position

Rear axle with tire removed and position of Flex-Axle. Rear retaining pin on rear axle Front & Center Axle position. I can get 4 fingers between tires, whereas only 3 (barely) between center & rear axle. Space between Center and Rear axle (3 fingers) Space between front & center axle (4...

Snapped a Leaf Spring: Axles out of position

2 weeks ago, the wife and I were set to head out for a camping trip. 1/4 mile from home, we see the 5'er smoking. Originally, we thought the brakes were locked up, so I pulled to the side of a busy road, jumped out to see what was amiss. To my dismay, I immediately noticed that the front axle...

Road Warrior fuel station gauge not registering levels

I know this is an old thread, but my fuel gauge also stopped working. I bought a replacement gauge (exact same unit), but nothing changed. I suspect that the sending unit (in or on the tank) has gone bad or has a wiring issue. Where to start?

    Under-belly cover

I can see the holes in the "board" where the screws/bolts used to be.. and that's where the bowing is. I have no idea what they were attached to - hence my idea of 3-4 aluminum straps from frame rail to frame rail to help hold this stuff up.
  16. B

    Under-belly cover

Just to be clear: Water is NOT the issue. The primary issue is that the center screws/bolts that were holding this up are no longer attached. The sides are still good, but at least 3-4 center bolts/screws no longer exist, causing it to bow in the center. Best method to fix?
  17. B

    Under-belly cover

Yes, last two trips home were in the rain, so I think this is the likely source of the very little bit of water. The bigger issue is the center studs/screws seem to have broken or are now non-existent.

    Under-belly cover

**I couldn't find an area to post this in, so I'm sure if one exists, a moderator will move as appropriate** Today, while installing scissor lift legs in the rear of my rig (the OEM units were garbage and kept binding, so I removed the electric unit), I noticed that the plastic coated cardboard...

How do you use your Toy Hauler?

We use our TH and garage to haul 3x ATV's. We do occasionally use the two drop-down beds when we have guests. We keep a roll-up carpet in the garage so we can quickly vacuum up the ATV dirt and make it somewhat presentable. We use the rear toilet all the time.

    Exterior decals

I didn't see another place to post this so.. 2 years ago, I had an accident, hitting another 5'er with my 5'er, putting some decent damage on the curb side of my 5'er - requiring all the decals be replaced, etc. Fast forward to today, all those decals are flaking off, bubbling and peeling off...

Salt Lake City to Vacaville then HWY1 (PCH) to San Diego

Thanks for all the feedback. We pretty much suspected the route wouldnt be advisable towing the 5'er. We'll start looking at alternate options for a fun and scenic road-trip.

Transfer Switch fried? Actually is OK.

Re: Transfer Switch fried? Thanks for all the help. From what I can tell, my transfer switch is behind the basement wall on the door side - and likely just below the steps up to the main bedroom. I'll pull the wall tonight and confirm.

Salt Lake City to Vacaville then HWY1 (PCH) to San Diego

We've done this route plenty of times in an SUV, but I've never hauled my 5'er through this route. We'd be taking I-80 West into Vacaville (visit family), then bypass Sacramento and SF and connect to the PCH (Hwy1) all the way south to San Diego. A few questions for those in the know: -Is the...

Transfer Switch fried? Actually is OK.

Re: Transfer Switch fried? My question was -- if anybody knew where the transfer switch was located. I have an idea as to location, but it looks like I'd be tearing out a wall and possibly the in-house vac system to get access to it.

Transfer Switch fried? Actually is OK.

Re: Transfer Switch fried? So the weather let up long enough yesterday for me to check out the Genset. Sure enough, one of the 30amp breakers had popped. Flipped both breakers to OFF then back to ON and tested. Working well again! Now, from what I can hear, my transfer switch might be under...

    ATF: Road Warrior - Fenders

I need to find aftermarket or OEM fenders for both sides of my RoadWarrior 395RW (2010). The plastic cracks due to vibration and the screws fall out. Are there fenders (plastic above the wheels) that are more robust and reinforced?

Transfer Switch fried? Actually is OK.

This morning, while my youngest and I were out Turkey hunting and boon-dock camping, we had the Genset running (Onan 5500 EVAP). We had 2x space heaters running when the boy decided to start up the microwave. Pop and no power except for the battery powered 12v items. I checked all the fuses...

Traveling from place to place in freezing weather.

I take the 5'er out regularly in subzero temps and I've run the furnace and water heater while towing - never an issue. Better to arrive with a warm and non-frozen interior (and water lines) than not..

Power source and/or fuse for Stereo and 12v "cigarette power"

Solved.. After phoning Heartland support and getting no help there (escalated to Engineering and no return email/call), I decided to follow the wiring using an ohm meter. Turns out there was a blown fuse in the panel, but as indicated above, it didn't engage the red light. Replaced the fuse and...

Power source and/or fuse for Stereo and 12v "cigarette power"

I lost all power to the area around the Jensen stereo, to include the stereo and the 12v power outlet thing (aka Cigarette lighter plug). Upon removing that panel, both have a power wire that just routes down through the wall to an undetermined location. None of the fuses in the main fuse panel...

2010 RoadWarrior 395. Playing the stereo a few days ago and we lost all power to the stereo and the 12v accessory power plug (aka Cigarette lighter plug). All fuses in the fuse panel are fine. I pulled the stereo out, but all power seems to just run downhill with no noticeable fuses inline. Took...

    3x 12volt RV batteries -v- 6v batts

So my rig today has 2x 12volt RV style batteries. During winter months, when just running on battery, I can get about 6-7 hours of furnace run-time before the batts run out.. then I have to get up early in the morning to connect my truck (pigtail) to the 5'er, start the truck up and trickle...

    Battery Goes dead over night

I take the 5th wheel out all year round and run the furnace 24x7. I just came back from a trip where our overnight temps were 12F...

    120 psi capable RV wheels

Late last year, we decided to replace and upgrade the OEM tires on our 3 axle 5th wheel. We went with 14ply "big-rig" style tires that are capable of 120psi, instead of the usual 80psi max that the Towmax were rated at. Sadly, we discovered that the OEM wheels are only rated for a max of 80psi...
