Narrowed it down to one of 2 units. What are your thoughts

?? Ummm.... Just my opinion: It's not appropriate to be recommending against the purchase of a Heartland product, on the Heartland forum, seems how this is kinda their forum -- and the purpose is to help people, further the product, listen to feedback, answer questions, and solve issues...

Narrowed it down to one of 2 units. What are your thoughts

Just to be clear: I don't think they are thermo-anything; no argon between the panes like is typical in residential homes. It's just two panes of glass. However, as others have said, it still helps.

He did A LOT of winterizing, insulating, heat taping, and skirting though -- that I read about in other posts. It's definitely not "stock".

    Just A Bit Disappointed!

That's the thing -- what's a reasonable expectation? Scenario 1: What would a reasonable person expect from an average 5th wheel? This average 5th wheel doesn't make any claims to about cold weather protection and there are no all-season stickers on the trailer. The warranty is also void if...

    Just A Bit Disappointed!

The funny thing is, wealthy Chinese consider American made items "luxury" and pay a huge premium for them. When I learned that I thought that was quite strange. Tight? I guess you didn't hear about the trillion or so dollars that the Fed has already injected, nor their fabulous 0% rate...

    Just A Bit Disappointed!

I think this is what the Zero Degrees test said on the website: "Heartland’s aluminum-framed, laminated fiberglass sidewall construction (most models) has proven to be exceptionally energy efficient, having passed the tests in Dometic’s extreme temperature chamber with flying colors. This...

    Motion Detector Light for RVs

It would be nice to have the ability to buy more stuff made in the USA. The problem is that the majority of American's buy based on price. This is evident by the overwhelming success of Wal Mart. A similar product made in the USA would cost twice as much, because we have labor laws and better...

Cold draft by your head due to windows?

I think I'd rather have no windows, but that's just me. I prefer my sleeping quarters to be as dark as a cave and I'm not into breezes.

I'm not sure I understand. How would a 3670 break down then? BTW, nice McCaw in your avatar. I love parrots.

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

True. But that's the nice thing about having a house on wheels. I'll just move if there's a problem. = ) But in all seriousness, the people I'm working with have thought about that and said they were going to check with their neighbor to make sure they were OK with it.

    Real height = published height?

Thanks again man! I think they published 8 ft as the width and 100" is 8.3 ft, so that's fairly close to what they listed.

    Real height = published height?

Thanks guys. Speaking of "width", I suppose those published measurements are not accurate either? What should I figure for exterior width, with the sliders in? Thanks again! -Nathan

    Real height = published height?

From an earlier post I asked about the real length and found out that the published numbers measured the INSIDE length... which makes no sense. But anyhoo, now I'm curious about the REAL height. The space I'm planning to rent has some trees that will have to be cut in order to get the BH in...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

Yeah baby -- i think i'm in business!!! Thanks man; you guys are awesome! So, if I measure everything coming into those two 50-amp breakers, I'm measuring all power consumption from the shore, right? The inverter is hooked up AFTER the breaker box, I'm assuming. Also, is each...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

Wait a second!! Back to the TED device... There's a breaker box somewhere in the Big Horn, right??? Couldn't I just install this device there, where the main power comes into the breaker box? PLUS, there's normal residential type 15 - 20 amp breakers there, correct? And if the breaker...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

I *think* I followed that. My brain is fried. The big caveat to that solution is obtaining a regular city meter though. I'm pretty sure that's not going to be doable. Maybe once my creative juices get flowing I can think of a way to do something similar with some of these other metering...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

OK... OK... Been looking at the TED device tonight. Head throbbing... **but** I think I got figured some things out. It looks like the unit does not measure output per breaker, but for the entire house. You simply connect the metering device to a breaker in the breaker box for (a) power...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

That TED device looks AWESOME, and relatively easy to install, although I will look at more particulars tonight when I get home. Was this portable meter you were given at the camp ground something "home made" or off the shelf? For example, did they take one of the more "permanent" metering...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

It's a little more complicated than that. It's a woman living in her deceased mother's house. She doesn't have a year's worth of bills to go off. When I owned a house 30 miles from here, my electric for an entire 1250 sq HOUSE was typically $30-35 a month; $50+ a month when I had a power...

Yeah, those look like they would work; thanks! Only problem is they look like permanent installations, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess... I'm not sure if they would agree to spend that kind of coin to solve this problem though... and I don't know if I'm willing to spend that much to...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

That's the main reason for making this thread. Since there's no meter, it would be nice to come up with an average number to pay them every month. I was trying to get help with what a fair number would be. Unless there was an easy way to installer a meter, that is....

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

Yeah; emailed Progressive and got a reply today. I'm out of luck in regards to any product they offer. BUT I did ask the owner if there was a particular reason (that I can't think of) why manufacturers don't add a kWh rating to devices like this. We'll see what he says....
  29. N

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

I doubt adding a kWh reading would add to the cost, as it's just another algorithm that can be programmed into the device. The only cost would be the initial labor to hire someone to make the program and update the menu so that one could navigate to that reading on the device. Anyhoo... I...

Newbie electrical usage Qs and other misc stuff...

Thanks everyone, you've been an immense help. I noticed that the Progressive EMS-PT50C has some digital read outs, but nothing that measures kWh usage. It would be killer to get a surge protector with a kWh reading as well too. I don't see why someone doesn't make one for a 50 amp plug. I...

Thanks guys. Yeah, I've been reading about all the stuff that can go wrong when wiring up a 50amp pedestal. I plan on getting a good surge protector for the BH. I'll probably get a multi-meter too. I'd imagine I'll be needing one eventually anyway. Any recommendations on the multi-meter...

Hmm... I don't know. I think they are trying to do this on the cheap -- I'm not sure they will want to install a meter. I'm assuming a separate meter would mean separate electrical service with Portland General Electric. The woman seems to think that her husband can install 50 amp service by...

Cold draft by your head due to windows?

For those of you who have their headboard in a slide-out with windows on each side of the bed, does your head get chilled and drafty (when the windows are shut)? Just wondering -- I've noticed my feet get cold if they are by a window in a normal stick-built house. Having windows right by your...

Wow; that's great to know. Glad the company took care of them. It seems that Heartland usually does the right thing and I really admire that. As a side note, I really love this forum! Seriously. I love seeing the good and the bad so that I can make a decision for myself. I love that...

Totally new to RVing -- learning, but have some newbie questions.

HOLY COW -- sweet setup! How come there are two inlets into your drain? One is the waste pipe, but what is the other? Where did you get those stands? What are they? The skirting looks nice. Is the idea that it pays for itself in heat savings?

Why a Landmark or a Big Country over the Big Horn?

LOL! (htneighbors) Well... yeah -- I was kinda thinking of the Augusta as a decked-out BH 3670RL. = ) I know it comes with some things you can't get on the 3670RL, but the 3670 is pretty freaking sweet already. I didn't realize the price between the two was (potentially) not very...
