ATF: Sundance - Rear slide out floor

2010 Heartland Sundance 297 XLT RE. Wearrived at our favorite rv park yesterday and when we extended the left rear slide heard a loud pop and now we can seen light coming through between the floor and side of the slide. Covered the space with duct tape as it's pretty cold here. Have already contacted extended warranty provider and auto insurance provider. Both said manufacturer defect, not covered. Waiting for a response from Hearland but not sure they will be willing to help as we are beyond the year warranty. Had an independant repair person look at it and he said whole slide has to be removed and floor rebuilt, as it was assembled using dry wall screws which have "pulled through" the floor material. We love our trailer and are now fearful of rip-off repairs. Anyone with experience in this type of problem we would appreciate input.

Sounds like almost exactly what happened to our Sundance. We luckily were still within the warranty time frame. But the real issue was the nearest dealer who could make the repairs was a 4 hour pull and we had to leave the trailer for almost a month to get things done. Ours looked like this on the inside: Damage Slide Living Corner 2.JPG DSC02315.jpg. In California, I could not recommend a repair dealer. I would just recommend taking it to a large shop with good facilities. We were luck enough to have one of the largest Heartland dealers in the Mid-west to deal with. Best of luck.

Well thanks for the info. You have the same carpeting and wall covering as we do! It looks like yours opened up along the face frame and wall. Ours opened up along the carpet & wall junction and extends about 2/3 of the depth of the slide out. When it first occurred we put the slide back in and as the slide retracted the gap got larger. By the time the slide was fully retracted, there was about a 3 inch gap from the face frame at least halfway back. When we put a flashlight to it we could see several screws pointing up that look like they were meant to go into the floor or metal frame of the slid out wall. When you look at the slide from the outside, you can see that the screws there are also pulled out. We are currently on a trip to S. California to visit family. We retired in July and and actually live in AZ about an hour from Las Vegas. I sent messages to the Heartland dealer there and no response so far. We sent a message to another dealer we found online and he called us in a couple of hours. In speaking to him over the phone he felt that his shop could handle any repairs needed fix the problem incl removing the slide. We may stop by and get an estimate on the way home. Meanwhile the duct tapeand a rolled up rug is keeping the cold out. This is the first problem of any kind we've had with our Sundance. I'll try and get some pics to post along with the repair saga. Thanks.

Hi Tentun

Can you keep us informed how HEARTLAND reacts to out of date warranty issues.
We have a 2009 Sundance 24rl which we bought new. Unbeknown to us we have a had a long term water leak
from the water pump that has soaked the living room floor. We reported leak two days after purchasing the 5th wheel.

Cheers Joe
