We are planning a trip this fall in our 26lrss to Glacier, Yellowstone, Teton and Sun Valley. We would appreciate campground suggestions. We will be entering Glacier at Apgar and entering Fromm the West Yellowstone area. Thank you for your wisdom. We are newly retired and new to trailering.

Your welcome, if you make it to Cody make sure to look us up. All our contact info is in the H.O.T.E.L section.

Regading Sun Valley - The only private place near Sun Valley is The Meadows RV Park. It's about three miles south of Ketchum. Otherwise, there are a number of nice Forrest Service camp grounds within 15- 20 miles (mostly north of SV/Ketchum).

We stayed at the KOA in West Yellowstone, and the KOA in East Glacier, really nice both of them. Since you will be at Glacier, if you can find the time and not sure when you will be back in that area, try and make it to Banff. The Canadian Rockies are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Easy drive from Glacier. You won't regret it. We did leave our trailer in East Glacier and went to Banff, stayed at the Castle Mountain Chalet, if you have dogs they are allowed there. To take your dogs into Canada, you just need a clearance from your Veternarian, he should have the form that is required by Canada. Great trip you are taking ENJOY.

If you come up to the Canadian Rockies, I can give you a pile of "local knowledge locations" that very few people know about. Banff is nice, but the drive from Banff to Jasper through the Ice fields is a must do. Lots of totally awesome places to see in Alberta.

Near Apgar I would suggest either the Glacier KOA on the Hungry Horse side or Mountain Meadows, both super nice RV parks on that side. In West Yellowstone, Grizzly RV is nice for a stopover, washing your clothes, and dumping your tanks, but I would highly recommend Baker's Hole, a FS CG 2 miles North of West Yellowstone. They have water you can fill up your tank at the entrance (and spigots throughout that you can use with a "water thief") and most sites have elec both 30 and 50 amp. Lots of big rig sites and some with a clear view of the Southern sky for satellite. Our favorite spacious CG within Yellowstone is Bridge Bay. I would also recommend Colter Bay off the Rockefeller way between the Tetons and the South entrance of Yellowstone. Colter Bay has an RV park (a little higher priced like Grizzly RV) and a dry camping side that can fit RV's. Within Grand Teton is Gros Ventre - can fit most sizes and has water at the entrance. A great place for moose viewing. There is an RV park in Hailey, south of Sun Valley and there are many FS CG's north of SV too. Murdock is an especially nice one with good roads with plenty of room in and out. THere is also a dump station by the NFS office by it. We're planning a trip up to the Canadian Rockies via Idaho, Cranbrook, Golden, Banff as far as Jasper, then back down through the Okanagon to Washington in Aug/Sept. We can take several weeks (5-6?) and would very much appreciate some "local knowledge" about where there are good RV parks. We have 38.5' 5ver, and like a quiet setting that's not too hard to get into. We usually want nothing less than W/E hookup.
(And have to agree, Vancouver Island is Tops!)

We drove that route but had a 29' TT at the time. We tried for Signal Mountain in Banff but it was full. Check them out for space, they have big rig sites. We instead ended up at Two Jack Main and had a spacious back in. The sites are all in mini circles and we made the mistake of driving around the circle and nearly hit a tree. We could have easily pulled into our site because it was in the front. So if you go there, as for a long site that you can back into from the entrance. We stayed also at Lake Louise - they have side by sides there and all sites are pull throughs, it'll fit your rig easily. As for Jaspar, we stayed at Whistlers. They do have hookups but they are very popular and have a waiting list. They're also very tight. When we first pulled in they put us on a waiting list and in the meantime we took a dry spot in the back. Those are more secluded, HUGE, and wooded but clearance for rigs. We ended up staying there and foregoing our waiting list spot. Here's a report and some pics of our trip. The first pic is of Two Jack Main with our site at the entrance to a loop. As you can see, we should have just backed in - http://www.peachmountain.com/narayan/Banff_Renee.asp

Hope this helps.
