Big Country Spare Tire Location

I am the new ower of a 2011 NT 26RKS purchased 01-11-12. Just back from our first trip. The spare tire is located under the battery and has only approx. 6" clearnest at best.
Not all road in campgrounds are smooth and they have pot holes, needless to say the spare tire hit the ground and broke what looks like a 3" alum washer for keeping the tire up. Has anyone else had the same problem? And does anyone have a good idea's where to mount the spare. Luckly the tire is not too damaged.

Re: ATF: Big Country - Spare Tire Location

Hi ChicoJCB,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge if needed.

I can't help with spare tire location, but some of our other members will jump in soon and help out.

I am also moving the thread to a different area where more will see it and give their opinion.

Enjoy the forum.

Re: ATF: Big Country - Spare Tire Location

I'm not sure where your battery/spare is located on a the North Trail 26RKS but on the Big Country's it is located behind the rear axle between the frame rails. It's nice having it there because it is not in the way of other things but it's a PITA to check the air pressure on a regular basis. Lippert does make a spare tire slide with an optional storage drawer but it may hang down too low depending on the ground clearance of your trailer.

You should be able to buy a mounting bracket for your spare tire. The mounting bracket will attach to the rear bumper. We had one on our SOB trailer. The bracket worked very well and should solve your issue in the front end. You can find the bracket on a lot of websites.

Was just wondering why the name of this thread is "Big Country . . . " when the subject rig is a North Trail . . .
