Bighorn - wheel rating?

Hello,

I have a 2011 3070 with the factory wheels. Presently they have load range e tires on it that require replacing. I would like to know how to determine if I can put lond range g tires on these wheels.

thanks!

Re: ATF: Bighorn - wheel rating?

The weigh carrying capacity of the rim is stamped on the backside of the rim. If I remember correctly G should be 3670. If it is not G rated then you will have to replace the E rims for G rims.

I didn't know there WAS a G rated tire that fits the original rims. I thought you had to go to a 17.5 inch tire.

Goodyear G-614's are the only american made tire that is LR-G-rated LT 235-85-R16, there are also some Chinese tires in a LR-G but I sure don't want any of them.

You can put the G rated tire on any rim it will fit. If you are trying to increase your load capacity, you need to worry about more than the wheels. Axle and springs are still limiting you to what they are rated at. As long as the wheel is rated for the axle weight, just run the tires that fit the rim.

Not quite that easy hoefler as the g rated tires have a higher psi and the wheel may not support that. I do not want more capacity - I just want a stronger tire on it if I can.

I appreciate people chiming in, but please only technical answers please. I am not interested in opinions.

With G614's requiring 110lb of air pressure your rims are the determining factor, I have the same trailer and now I'm wondering what capacity my rims have. I'm going to check mine tomorrow and see what I can find out. I don't ever remember reading a posting which gave the information you or we need.

I had the same question you have awhile back. I suffered a blow out on my "E" rated factory tires and went to a set of "G" rated tires while on a trip. Upon returning home, I questioned whether the factory rims would handle the 110psi. After much looking, I discovered they were "G" rated. The "110psi" was stamped on the inside of a spoke. It's a little tough to find without removing the wheel from the trailer.

Many RV's come stock with wheels made by Sendel. I am sure our BC wheels are T02's. I had also bought a set of T02's for our previous rig. If you look at the Sendel web site, most of their aluminum trailer wheels are rated at 110psi.

mpuppy,

You can change to a G rated tire on your current rim with no issues. I hope this helps
