Well the magnetic latches are installed. Had to make two orders to get all the parts so I'll list my learnings here for you.
First there are two sides to the magnets. They don't come as a set so you have to order one of each (makes them a little pricey at 8.45 each side or 17.10 for one set). They also come in two color choices, black and white.
Parts list:
Heartland Part Number: 0119083 - Clip Baggage Door w/7 LB Magnet Reverse Polarity Black
Heartland Part Number: 0119082 - Clip Baggage Door w/7 LB Magnet Black
#8 self tapping screws
1 roll of putty tape (probably optional but I did it)
First here is what the setups looked like prior to attaching:
I place the magnets right under the slam latch centered so I wouldn't hit any of the inner workings. Put the putty on the back then screwed them into the door frame using the self tapping screws:
I then put the other half of the magnet on with the putty on and opened the door to align where the magnets on the side of the coach should go:
Here is the final result - my old safety latches still work in case I want to be sure the door isn't going to slap me in the head:
All in all it was a really simple project. I'm now on to installing my Steady-fast stabilizers. Much more involved!
When you mounted the portion of the magnetic catches on the coach, did you find areas with a "stud" in the wall? I would be concerned about them pulling out if not mounted to something besides the skin of the coach. If you found structural members, how did you find them?
I was originally worried until I figured out how much pressure it actually took to separate the magnets. It's not much - 7Lbs seemed like a lot on paper. I didn't mind just placing them in the skin. If I have issues with it (which is a possibility) I'll use some of those dry-wall style fasteners which expand behind the skin for greater surface area. It's at most 7lbs of pull weight but it feels like much less. I notice no pulling of the coach skin or anything when operating the doors. Given I was retrofitting existing doors and I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like I didn't have too many options.
