Hi hummer_maxxer,

With a factory installed generator, you'll have an automatic transfer switch. When the generator is started, after about 25 seconds for the generator output to stabilize, the transfer switch will switch to the generator output - with both power sources present, priority goes to the generator. This cuts the circuit from shore power. There should be no ill effect if shore power is still plugged in. If shore power goes out and you start the generator, when shore power comes back on, you'll still be running from the generator, until you manually shut it down. At that point, the transfer switch will return to using shore power.
