Dish network in western US

We live in Florida and have only traveled in the Southeast. Now we are in Utah. Since we have been out west, we seem to have a hard time getting a strong signal. No problem in the east.

we have a dish 500 antenna. Normally, hubby can aim it quickly. Since being in the west, it takes hours for him to get it good enough to watch. Forget HD channels out here.

We do the same thing every time......put in the zip code to get the settings and aim the dish. Is there anything different to know when in western US?

Appreciate your input.

We have Dierct TV, but my antenna with my Bird Dog meter can get a 100% signal on Dish and only 98% to 99% signal strength. I sometimes am lazy and don't look up the direction so I find the Dish signal and then turn the antenna left and up to find the Direct TV satellite. Dish has a much stronger signal. I am using a full size home dish. I drilled out the rivets and use push pins to remove and install the receiving head. The antenna stores easily this way. I also made a stand out of PVC pipe that breaks down into a small plastic box with the meter and RF cable.

You probably need to find the western satellites. Try this enter the address then use the drop down and find your system.

I believe that Dish has 2 separate antennas; 1 for the Eastern satellites and 1 for the Western Satellites: Eastern Arc http://www.amazon.com/Dish-Network-1000-4-Eastern-61-5/dp/B001IQF6AO Western Arc http://www.amazon.com/Network-Dish1000-4-Western-Arc-Dish/dp/B004S7JNBI

See this webpage for Dish East-West coverages: http://www.kvh.com/Pages/Satellite-...aps/North-America/DISH-Network-US-Marine.aspx

While Dish does have satellites on both an Eastern and Western Arc, the same dish can be used for both arcs. However, you do need to change the LNB to one for the appropriate arc. I used to carry the 1000.2 Dish with LNB's for both the Eastern and Western Arcs and it worked fine for both. Generally speaking, the older Western Arc has a broader coverage of the US but the Eastern Arc is more popular along the east coast and carries more of the HD channels on the locals. For example with my local DC coverage, I get the locals in SD on the Western Arc but HD on the Eastern Arc.
