Escort to DMV needed for a "Non Commercial License" (Class A)

"Hey Bill. Are you talking about the attachment I put up? That was from DMV CA when I completed the entire testing."

No, I meant how to know ALL the Pre-Driving Inspection items to cover with the examiner watching/grading.

It was also helpful to know the amount of items you can miss and still pass. Some people I have talked to were fearful of missing 1 item on the pre-inspection, immediately failing, and having to have their escort drive them back home. Also posting the scoring sheet was a great help.

Do you think they will allow me to use a back-up camera system in the turning/parking test?

Good morning Bill,

The Recreational Vehicles and Trailers Handbook (DL 648 Rev 11/2001) for California Residents will have everything you will need to know and study for to achieve your Class A Non Commercial License. The "Pre Trip Inspection" is also in the Handbook.

I started reading the regular CDL Handbook which is not needed nor related. Honestly, just study the info above mention, have your wife give you a quiz with doing a pre trip inspection walk through or even saying it out loud. Practice your Alley Dock. Every pull forward required is a point against you. I got two points against me in regards to the Alley Dock test.

In the handbook, it will explain all the requirements and step by step you will need to do. There are plenty of information from others here on this site by using the keyword "Non Commercial license" in the search box of Heartlands website. (Top Right Side of the Site).

Here is a link to the Handbook:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl648/dl648.pdf

The Pre Trip Inspection - Cannot miss more than 10

Skills Test - Cannot miss more than 10

Driving Test - Cannot miss more than 45

I am glad I went to Lancaster and it was unfamiliar ground for me. The Examiner Roy is a great guy. I would recommend this DMV. The Parking lot where they conduct your pre trip, skills test is small but not a big factor if you have years of experience pulling a fifth wheel and been practicing for your test.

Al,

There's an old joke: What do you call the medical student who had the worst grades and the worst test scores from the worst medical school?

Today, my wife Lisa passed her Class A Non Commercial Permit!!! Her license is up for renewal this november. That being said, DMV made her take the class C written test as well. She passed that one too. Im glad at least she is pursuing this to help her better understand the rules, safety and a backup driver in case something happens to me. It has helped the both of us to become better drivers on the road.
