Gravity flow auxiliary fuel tank question

Just trying to keep fuel in stock tank as clean as possible. I almost always pump fuel to aux. tank when refueling.

I just got a 20 gal RDS tank # 72587.
My question is I am going to use the 3/8" drain for a gravity connection with a fill kit.
I want to remove and plug the fuel suction lines in the top of the tank.
That should not be a problem but there is a third treaded hole in the top.
I think this has a roll-over vent installed in the 1/2" threaded hole.
Can this roll-over vent be removed since there is a vented fuel cap furnished with the tank?
If it can't be removed how do you keep dirt and insects out of the hose bib ?

You will need to have a vent in your aux tank.
The RDS should have a vent on top that has a check valve on it.

RDS told me the tank will not gravity drain through the cap, that extra vent is required.

I ran the vent hose up underneath the bed rail, looped it and added small universal fuel filter to the end.

Same here but w/o the filter. Looped the hose so the end faces down so as not to collect any stray water from rain or hose while washing.

I had the loop in my vent line as well......for a while.
I put too much fuel in my tank one day and when it got hot the next day the fuel expanded and came out the vent hose.
After turning the aux tank on later in the day it was not draining.
Seems that there was enough fuel in the loop to prevent the venting that was needed for the gravity flow.
Opened the filler cap and heard the whoosh of air entering the tank.
I cut the loop off and have not had a problem since.

Odd. I've had fuel push out a couple of times (my drive is sloped and south facing so if I park a certain way on a hot summer day-) but if I open the tank valve to fill the OEM tank I can see the fuel in the hose (mine's poly tubing) being drawn back into the tank.

So you installed your loop like the water tank vents

Mine comes out of the tank, up to the rail and drops down. No low spots.

I guess I should say I put it in a bight instead of loop.

I have a bight now, but will be cutting it in the center.
I really don't even see a need for the added hose.
