Hi,

We've got our new Sundance in the CMCA Motorhome park in Casino, Northern NSW, Australia. There was another Sundance that was leaving as we arrived. Not a huge number of 5ers in Australia, but they are becoming very popular here now.

Welcome to the forum. You may be the first member from Australia and definitely the first I've heard of to own a Heartland product there.

That is very interesting that you've seen another Sundance there already.

Who was your dealer and how did you import the unit in?

Thanks,

Jim

Wow! Golly! Neat! Awesome! .... Welcome , to the forum Peter and congrats on the Sundance. If the fuel wasn't so high I'd hook up the BigHorn and drive over and we could have a Holiday together.;) Keep us posted on your adventures from the great Down Under......Ken

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome.

Our dealer is nearby in Lismore - Pacific RV. He has imported RVs for 5 years now. I think he was one of the first to do so in Australia. We first saw a Sundance at his yard about three months ago. He had 2 there then. When we picked ours up, he had another one there as well that was also sold, just waiting to be picked up.

We are in this park while we organise a suitable truck, and most likely will be here for 3 months or so.

I'll organise some pics later. Presently it is overcast and raining. Not great weather for nice pics.

More later

Hi Peter, Yes, Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy your new Sundance. If you have questions, there are a lot of people here that will give help when needed.

((Thinking))Hmmm!!! Wonder if Heartland needs a rep to go over there and check on things for them?? I would almost work for just expenses. None

Mystic, is that park just off the airport? google earth'd it and love the location (mainly because it is australia). Plan on spending some time is AU in the next few years and would love some travel pointers.

HI,

Yes, it actually is on the airport. The airport is not used now, and the motorhome park is near one end of the runway. It was set up by the motorhome club to be a perfect place for larger rigs, however it turns out that new management has sort of gone for the $ rather than the original ideals, so it is not as popular as it used to be. We keep hearing stories of how good it was a year or two back.

Still quite good though. Large sites with space between then. Pets allowed (That is what sold us). Not a real holiday park, so not too much noise. (actually havn't seen a kid since we have been here.)

Raining again today so no pix, but it will stop eventually, and I will take some pix.

Mystic, Congraulations on the new sundance and welcome aboard. My wife and I have had a sundance 3200 for a year this month and love it. We know you will love yours also. Do they have to modify the electrical system for the voltage? Just curious. Randy

Hi,

The voltage here is 240V, so the dealer added a step-down transformer (240v to 110V) and connects that to the existing 110v circuits, so all the appliances work from that. Then he added a few 240v power outlets for Aussie appliances. So we have a three voltage van - 12V, 110V and 240V.

Electronics has been my life, so not too much of a problem for me to handle. In fact I've got an inverter to add quite soon, along with extra battery and couple of solar panels as we will be doing quite a bit of dry camping once we get our truck.

Hi Mystic, Welcome to the Heartland Family. Our Sundance is almost a year old now. Know you will enjoy your as much as we do. What type of trucks do you have there for tow vehicles?

Hi,

A lot of imported 5ers are towed with imported chev/GMC or Ford pickups. Particularly F250 and some F350. because they need to be converted for RH drive, it can cost $60,000 on top of the US purchase price to put one on the road here.

The local vehicles can't handle the tow weight of most of the US imports.

I'm going for the medium truck option, as I have a medium truck licence. I'm looking and at 300 series Isuzu tray top truck. 5.3l diesel with clutchless manual transmission. It has a 4 ton load capacity, (10ton GVM) so heaps for the 5er with plenty to spare for the generator, air compressor, tools and buts and pieces we can load on the back. I'm not a high speed tow driver, so it will be fine.

The other consideration is that the price of the new truck is less that the cost of a well-used secondhand chev or Ford pickup here.

Hey Mystic,

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new rig....I'm still trying to picture a Sundace with a set of bull bars on the nose cone....No worries.

I'm usually in Australia in April and July so I'll have to look you up next year.

I have never seen a 5er on the road down there only a few in dealers lots up in Queensland.

Enjoy!!

Peter,

I believe that the AC frequency in Oz is 50 Hz. How is your AC motor working on this lower frequency? Induction motors can have problems when operated with non design frequency.
